Indeed, it is very scary.
Last year while we were on vacation this idiot in his thirties was making a sad attempt to hit on my daughter.
I told him she was fourteen, and the pillock was off like a shot.

A mate of mine is a school teacher. He got a job in the area he grew up in and moved back. He was to start his job after the holidays. Having finished his current job and moving back "home" he was taken on a night out with some of his old pals. They did a wjolr ads night out thing and spent time in one club with a few gals who were well up for it. My mate was/is married so he went along with the having a laugh but there was nothing further than buying the gals a drink. It was a lads night out so they flirted and had a laugh but no one was trying to pull.
Come September he started his new role and surprise 2 of the girls were 14/15 year old students of that school.
My mate was 25 at the time and he is one of the most straight forward and nice guys going. Never would he cheat on his wife and kids etc. But he said had he been single both the lasses were proper up for it and he would have been happy enough to bang one or both as the looked 20 at least on the night out.
Dangerous world these days
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is absolute truth. Age is not the factor really, but the innocence of some only....who is luring whom is the reality of it all.
The thing for me is the 3 times bit... Yeah its dangerous but a one off is a mistake, could be fooled etc
But 3 times is going back for more.... Stating the obvious i know.... But with everyone on Facebook, Twitter, instagram etc... It aint hard to get info or even an idea of her real age.
If he's charged with grooming, theres evidence he's went chasing her... Given his Mrs etc, he'd be borderline ret@rded not to have had a snoop

Tbh it means very little in these cases initially, worked in community safety and what I learnt was that certain terminology gets used by the CPS to try and get the case to court. Sad is this will sound but in these cases they will always try and get it to court simy because of the pressure and focus on protection for women.
The grooming issue may simply be what you and I would call chatting up. So in a club most would go up and chat up a girl buy her a few drinks etc and that is fine if she is over the age of consent but if under the same process is classed as grooming.
I know it sounds a bit anti women but I worked in community safety and with victim support etc in a managerial capacity and some of what passes as law in these cases is BS.
Note rape is horrific and is the lowest of the low and s.cu.m should be hung drawn and quartered. In no way am I suggesting its anything but horrific. Just having worked in the field its jot always as portrayed in the media etc. I know lads who got sentenced and 5 years on the register and have nothing but sympathy for them as they were never guilty in the way portrayed
Falmaria
I get what you are saying there.
Add to that that the CPS would want to get this to court because it is also going to be high profile.
You would have to assume the CPS really do have compelling evidence, otherwise someone in the CPS will be on a career down slide.

Im going by personal experience... In that when my eldest daughter was 12 her friends grandfather tried to "groom" her
Fortunately we caught on quickly (she being young hadnt a notion)... But the polices hands were tied because he hadnt specifically asked to meet... So they couldn't prosecute for grooming... He was issued with a personal protection notice (i think it was called), and warned any attempt at contact would then see him charged.
Only caught on due to a present being sent to our house... Which arrived while i was off work for the day, then checked her fb, saw cleverly worded but odd messages.
Police officer who dealt with it all rang me blazing mad at the guys attitude, was in no doubt at what was going on.

You would think so VC, your last sentence. But in these cases now they would get more grief for not going as fr as they can than be seen as frivolous. Its a new mindset with these cases and domestic violence. Did you know that in domestic violence even if a woman hits a bloke and keeps hitting him and he reacts then as she comes of worse as in the bloke hits harder once than she does 10 times, he is still the aggressor according to women's groups etc.
Again not advocating violence against women, or defending Johnson. Its silly getting too one sided as its in focus. Incidentally the women's groups admit that over 80%, if I recall, of domestic violence cases are instigated by women, as in women are first to get violent, but come of worse in the long run so will always be the victim. As far as the groups are concerned this is how it should be to protect women.

That's the thing mate. With the age of the girl simply buying her a drink could be grooming. Even if he found out her age later and didn't know at the first poi t of contact it can still be called grooming.
Potentially scenarios
Man sees 15 year old knows she is 15 and chats to her buys gifts and plys her with drink = grooming.
Man in nightclub sees girl looks about 20 chats her up buys her a drink, she is in fact 15 =grooming
What I was saying before is that with the to us on getting more women to come forward in rape cases etc things are a little strange in these cases and not straight forward. It will go to court even if he will ultimate get found not guilty. Although if it went on for a few months not sure what his defence will be
Grooming is when someone builds an emotional connection with a child to gain their trust for the purposes of seual abuse or exploitation.
_______________
Yeah that was what I gleaned from Google but I still don't fully get it.
Does this mean or imply that he knew she was a child? And was abuse/exploitation intended or only intercourse with what he thought was a consenting adult?
It seems like a very vague term on which to base a formal charge. I don't really feel I can comment on his actions without understanding this better.
Why not just charge him with knowingly having intercourse with a child if that's what happened? The term "grooming" doesn't really clarify anything imho!

A lot of people are commenting on here from the point of view of the man and I get that as this is a male orientated website and we all fear a scenario where we get caught with our pants down.

Yeah see your point mate, we'll have to wait and see, but if he did groom her knowing she was under age then he deserves what ever punishment he is given
Falmaria, that's quite scary. It's a strange thought that people are expected to ask a girl for I.D. before even buying her a drink! You would hope the person on the door would have done that already.
PS Admins, it really is a bore to have to type the word "intercourse" because the colloquial three letter version of that word is "banned". I.e. the Latin word for the number "six". Are we really that prude here? Come on....even children can use that word with impunity.

Although nothing to do with this case, had he gone to a club and chatted up this girl without knowing she was 15, why should the man be punished? You're talking utter nonsense here. My first comment was merely pointing out the fact that these " young" girls these days do not carry themselves as such. They dress up and go to places they shouldn't be. Any grown man who knows their age and proceed to getting sexually involved should be rightly locked up.

Really? Tbh if you meet a woman and the (rhymes with nanny) was good all it takes is a text to pay another visit. Who really does thorough social media research on a chick putting out? Unless you really like her.
I don't think any of this can be justified but nor do I think the public should be judging, as many have stated, it's very easy to be deceived especially for celebrities where women will do anything to get with him.
If he did it whilst aware of her age then he's a sick bàstard but if he generally didn't know, which believe it or not is possible then I feel for what the guy will have to go through, as said could happen to absolutely anyone who pulls
Mind, I will enquire for ID from any woman I buy a drink for from now, not even joking

Anyway, seriously, what does grooming mean in this context? I really have no idea! What did he actually do?

He seems to have the if they look old enougb attitude.
Grooming is when someone builds an emotional connection with a child to gain their trust for the purposes of sexual abuse or exploitation.

I hope people are being fair and somewhat accepting that this may well have been a case of sleazy guy knowing what he was doing and being an absolute scümbag.
