Bertrand has proved to a better player than I thought, will never make it at one of the top clubs though, Soton is his level. Let's be honest as well, Azpiliecueta has been the lest LB in the league, Bertrand is only there to balance it up with less chelsea players. moreno will be a good signing for us, he will improve.

This was clearly a wum article.

Moreno is 22 years old and can improve. He came to a new country and had to adapt to a new lifestyle, language.

I have seen last year a lot of games of Villa with him in the team and he made a lot of mistakes. At Soton he has Wanyama or Schneiderling to help him out, at Villa he had some average players.

The players we have will improve with a good pre-season, be patient guys.

If we had a striker who could score 15 goals this year we would have 10 more point.

And plenty of us did watch him several times last season, he was very poor for Villa, you can ask their fans on here. They decided against offering a permanent deal as a result. As great teams said, Saints set up in a very solid way, with two defensive midfielders, Tadic and Mane work very hard tracking back. He hasn't done much of note attacking wise.

All these people who watched loads of Villa

Course you did.

Have you ever thought maybe (if he even was), he may have been poor for Villa because he had barely played any football last season and needed to get up to speed?

'He hasn't done much of note attacking wise:'

2 goals and 3 assists Bertrand has in the Prem.

Moreno, often from left wing back, so higher up the pitch, and, from what you are saying, in a far more attack minded team as you all seem to think Southampton are super defensive, has 2 goals and ZERO. Thats zero. Assists.

Zero assists and directly at fault for 3 goals, while Bertrand hasn't been at fault for any goals.

Finally, if you actually read the initial post, and my comments, I am not saying Bertrand is better than Moreno, will be better than Moreno, or has always been better than Moreno.

I am saying many of you wanted to pay £20m for Moreno, while you didn't want to pay £7-8m for Bertrand.

That looks very silly, as there is absolutely no way Moreno is that much better than him.

Who actually said pay £20m for Moreno?

I still think Moreno will end up being the far better player.

Moreno needs a lot of improvement. Defensively he is bad and going forward/final ball has been terrible. He could improve defensively but being effective in final 3rd is something you either have or don't. Hard to say if he will be the better player.

We are not a crossing team but a passing through the middle team or hitting teams on the break quickly.

Kash I can't remember who but it definitely happened that when we were in for Moreno and it was dragging on then people were saying 'stop haggling and just pay what Sevilla want!' When the rumours were they wanted £20m.

When we got him for the reported £12m most were surprised we got him that 'cheap'.

After his first season I wouldn't say it was cheap at all.

Can at 9.6m was a steal though and should prove Coutinho-esque value.

We have scored the same number of goals as Southampton by the way so excuses for Moreno not having an assist compared to Bertrand don't really wash.

They are not a free-scoring side either.

I'm not exactly fussed by assists to be honest. Unless it's a genuine assist where the player has done a lot of work to provide the goal. Sterling got two assists against City but neither of them meant anything in the context of the goals. Even if you were to say that Bertrand would have been better value than Moreno, I still wouldn't want Bertrand. As has been pointed out, he looked hopelessly out of his depth at Chelsea and was poor at Villa.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Villa fans as well commented on how poor he was as well, and yes I think Villa fans may have watched quite a lot of Villa last season.

Moreno is four years younger crucially which is an additional factor when assessing the price tags.

So people say Bertrand hasn't done anything attacking wise.

I point out his stats are better than Moreno's, in (apparently) a more defensive team, but now those stats are irrelevant.

Ok.

Also, the idea that Bertrand won't improve is silly.

He is 25, not 32.

A lot of fans seem to think players only improve if they are 22 or under.

Look at Baines as an example.

He was miles better at 27 than he was at 24.

It's all about the player.

Bertrand has gone from playing infrequently to playing regularly. He could well improve greatly in the next couple of years with regular football.

Better than what? Having an opinion that's different from the crowd, backed up by evidence?
