It’s also impossible (at this stage) to determine the amount of paperwork businesses will need to complete.

There will obviously have to be customs declarations etc. but as the regulatory landscape won’t be determined until the FTA in force impossible to say.

All agrifoods, cattle, (veterinary) plants etc will however be subject to SPS checks which could bring supply chains to a standstill, and lead to food shortages.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Produce and purchase local. Get these last fat rsed farmers off their catered for behinds and grow what their people want instead of feeding a subsidised machine or being paid to leave good land fallow.

Fwcking lunatics demanding strawberries mid December ffs

Bloody ridiculous way we live.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What an insane comment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shut up and try and relax for once ffs

Maybe do a bit of reading between the lines and take it in the spirit as WWSPD did.

Sheesh.

Exactly.

We do not have to fight and disagree about every single comment, just because we vote differently.

How boring and prickly the world has become.

I blame Kenny.

It's not a matter of being tense ffs, all those stupid lines are ACTUAL arguments people make to try and claim we can somehow be sustainable post brexit.

And they are all lies, it's frustrating rubbish to see constantly, and frankly it didn't seem tongue in cheek at all

Tbab: it's absoloutely fine to disagree with comments that ignore facts and the reality of a situation, such as the insane brexiter narrative that land is paid to be left fallow by the eu rather than acknowledging the need for agricultural set aside. Both in terms of environment and the need for pollinators habitat.

If your post is meant as a joke ginge then you have my apologies, but Its a bit close to the mark compared to actual arguments made by your fellow brexiters, on this very thread at times!

Global warming and we can grow more of our fruit.

No snow this winter and few frosts.

More like dark spring than winter.

No worries.

It was meant tongue firmly planted in cheek and that's for a couple of reasons. One being to try and lighten the mood - failed ; the other to just get a reaction - succeeded (but not the one I wanted)

He then made the point that if a man who has lost both GE's he has taken part in is favoured over Attlee, Wilson and Blair then they really are in big trouble.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to touch on this, Attlee was our best ever PM, so he certainly should be ahead of corbyn

I do think Corbyn should be pretty high on the list though, he inflicted more defeats on the government than previously seen, and has successfully forced the Tories left a little economically. Making them pledge to out back the police they have taken out, refund social care and match him on NHS spending pledges, and from a labour members point of view, hes empowered the membership, democratized the party again post blair, engaged an entire generation in politics, gave a lot of people genuine hope, installed a general secretary that has cleared 250 cases of historic anti-semitism that never hit the news under previous leaders, and has successfully moved the party back to its centre left origins.

All in all I would say his time as our leader has been more productive than many other leaders who were never elected to PM, and has given us a wonderful base to kick on from.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you making the argument that, while losing elections himself, he's laid the foundations for future electoral success?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) you by your own admission are not a fan of the Labour movement, So im not for one second expecting you to look at it impartially, Im not...

2) Im coming at this from the angle of being a member since 2012, and seeing the improvements in the democracy and inclusion of the party under his leadership, Something non members wont be able to judge, and a large part of that headline 70% vote

3) Winning/losing an election, especially the last one is too complex to be reduced to a binary "But he won/lost"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought Ivan was pretty clear about his left leaning credentials...just not Corbyn Momentum Labour?

Did I read correctly insert that you were once a Tory, or have I misread completely?

Apologies if not, bud.

RLB would not be your friend, if true lol.

Can't believe remain and leavers, plus Tory and Labour are now falling out or not being friends.

Try living in NI if you want to see how that political or ideological division works out.

It's 2020 dudes, relax and experience diversity and accepted are different people, but all humans making it up as we go along.

I miss the snow of sixties into eighties...I am a kid in snow still.

We need the frost to break up soil too, if I remember right?

Read this week we should reduce our meat and dairy intake by one third, which would make us healthier too, so even climate change deniers can join in.

I'm not a fan of the Labour Party and its actions over the last decade or so. There's a subtle difference there.

Also I don't think any of us are capable of looking at anything impartially given our own inherent bias.

People won't do it, i no longer cook meat at home, the Vivera vegan products are really convincing meat substitute. Their shawarma (kebab meat) is great, the bacon is VERY convincing.. Steak is passable with a sauce, and Cauldron sausages are fantastic in sausage casseroles (I use the sausage and lentil casserole recipe on here: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/jan/18/lentil-recipes-hugh-fearnley-whittingstall it's great )

I'll eat meat if we go out (as I very much see it as a treat now)

Churchill led a coalition government, not belittling his leadership but literally as soon as war was over he was out on his ear.

Every PM has pluses and minuses. However, Theresa May is far and away the worst PM we have ever had and she beat Johnson!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You know he came back in in 51?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Keep England White"

Legend!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Literally defeated the actual Naztis
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What?

Like I said, all leaders have plus and minus columns.
Churchill led the country during the war, he was also an Imperialistic racist. No doubting his rhetorical skills though.

So many of these vegans and anti meat eaters only read what they want to read.. Forests being chopped down for palm oil, nuts avocado's etc being flown all round the world on planes to feed these idiots...global warming is happening and at best we could delay its couple of decades... Let's talk about China and coal and killing the world's mammals and animals and the human population doubling in size before any caaaant tells me not to eat a steak
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What crap.

What does palm oil have to do with veganism for a start? I'm not a vegan, it's utterly unrelated, and the amount of forest cut down for these reasons is paltry compared to the amount for cattle and their feed..

It is falling as a percentage of deforestation but its still about 70% of global deforestation.

Most of these products are also sailed around the world rather than flown as they are pretty stable..

We can stop global warming, its possible to roll it back, not just delay it a couple of decades, thats just a silly argument used by people who don't want to change their lifestyle for the good of future generations

We can talk about China.. Half the carbon per capita as the USA and about 2/3rds of ours, so who needs to make the greater change?

Coal? Yes, it's an issue, leave it in the ground, we still consume it here.. We used it to develop as a nation, its hard to deny others that right, we need to help them roll out the technological alternative

The human population has already grown beyond sustainable levels, so either cut down on your consumption so that we can slow, halt and reverse the catastrophic changes, or perhaps go out and cull some of your like minded anti climate robots who happily grab any false snippet of information that denigrates people trying to make a difference like it's a life raft and regurgitate it like thoughtless robots on internet forums perpetuating lies.

I love meat, it's delicious, but i can also do without it other than as a treat, like it used to be, because I'm not a selfish ass hole who thinks I should be able to carry on however I like without a thought for anyone else, and in the hope that someone else will pick up my slack and sort the situation out for me!

How can we slow it if human population is gonna double in the next 200 yrs and we will have to produce the same amount of food we ha e produced in the last 8000 yrs.. 8% of forest cut down last Yr was for palm oil... Australia building gas stations all along the Kimberly coast to make share holders billionaires whilst destroying the whole eco system.. That's where people need to start... If we don't reduce population and stop all this fosil fuels are are fked and no you can't stop global warming.. The earth heats up and cools down and there ain't fk all you can do about it... We might be speeding it up but we wo t stop it.... We have been lucky to live in a pretty peaceful time of the planets life where its spent more yrs in ice ages than warm....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its completely possible to geo engineer the world and lock carbon away, its theoretically possible to terraform other planets for this reason.

If you don't want to consume palm oil then don't, like many others, buy products with the palm oil free logos, thats not tackling the issue that countries wish to exploit their natural resources, the slowing of palm oil production has increased the rate of deforestation for durian fruits.

The global population won't double, not in any way. We won't have a chance when people like yourself value your right to a steak over other people's suffering at the hands of severe weather, rising temperatures, rising sea levels and uncontrollable fires.

When James Watt invented the steam engine it revolutionised the world, Tesla is now worth $100b, bigger than Volkswagen.

I get it that vested interests put up protectionist barriers but surely 21st century growth is to be made from, as yet undiscovered, eco-friendly systems of energy, food production and transport, that is a whole new field for capitalist profit.
The Victorians would have loved the opportunity to explore new alternatives, so what's holding our governments, inventors and engineers back?

Vested interests, global financial markets, the US dollar is underpinned by fossil fuel prices...

The technology is already available to fix these issues, its a matter of cost, and economic policy.

Firstly as stated by others, palm oil is contained in various products.

Also, it's a little more complicated than palm oil = bad, as compared to other plant based oils, it requires less land and pesticides than other alternatives.

The reason it is used, is because no other crop can yield even a third as much oil per acre planted.

Blaming me for eating steak 😂😂😂 all pred say population will double.. That's double the food double the housing double the energy use double everything and you think people not eating meat we save the planet.. Clueless
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The population won't double because we won't have the resources to do so in the face of these increasing catastrophes.

Also i never said meat is the whole problem, im just challenging your silly claim that your right to meat is superior to others right to exist, or your duty to leave the planet in a fit state for future generations to enjoy.

I'm aware and I'm not against eating meat. I'm against it being consumed lunch and dinner 7 times a week,

If we all cut down to 3 portions of meat a week some studies say we could reduce farmland by 75% globally.

Thats a hell of a lot of land to reforest, capturing carbon, helping to reduce global temperatures, providing habitat for wildlife, nature and recreational spaces.

Being dismissive of the cost of eating meat is the height of folly, its not just the 30g of protein, it's the 300g of protein grown to create that 30, it's the tractor emissions, water usage, pesticides that go in to growing all those beans, it's the land required for those beans..

Instead, those beans could feed 10 people their 30g of protein. As i said, repeatedly I LOVE meat, but you cannot deny the arithmetic, nor the other consequences. Agriculture is the biggest source of carbon emissions, and a huge part of that is growing 10x the crops to create lamb and beef, pork is a much better converter of protein, 3g for every 1g of meat in fact, chicken is also much better than lamb or beef.

Eggs are of the best sources of protein per kg of CO2e
