I got an email yesterday from an ad company asking to avoid and delete any mention of covid on here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What do they expect people to talk about?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm assuming it's difficult to sell an Audi via an ad if folk are taking about a grandparent in a nursing home with covid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is disgraceful how much control they have of what people can say. We need a multibillionaire to make a social media site happy to make a loss from no advertising revenue. Elon if you're reading...

There is one, it's not for what you want, it's nice.

Hopefully his leads to someone creating social media with 100% free speech. I am sick and tired of the antics of YouTube and twitter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“100% free speech” has never existed in any country at any time in history, and never will do, for very good reason indeed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry I meant first amendment level of free speech. I.e. not European "free speech" where you become a criminal for saying mean words to people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How about you just don't be a caant instead?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very true, but I would prefer a coont to face social repercussions not criminal ones just for saying mean things.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What criminal charges for mean things are you talking about?

1. The school has since provided additional training for its staff, and the matter was resolved without any further action from police.

No criminal charges.

2. Scaremongering headline. No charges.

3. You probably should be punished for glorifying terrorism and humiliating victims.

Not sure what any of those links have to do with the First Amendment, Trump’s complete failure to understand it (although, to be fair, he clearly isn’t the only one), or the cold, hard fact that Twitter or any other SM company cannot break it.

Fair enough but the police should never have been anywhere near it in the first place. It's intimidation.

Rosso, you would never get police interest or charges on any of those things in America. The first amendment does protect you from saying offensive things that would get you jailed in Europe. Incitemtn to violence is a whole different thing that of course would not be covered.

That’s because the First Amendment has an influence in shaping criminal law.

The bounds of US solicitation/hate speech laws are effectively constrained by the First Amendment when they are written and legislated.

If an American citizen incites violence, repression or discrimination in such a way that US criminal law is violated, however, the First Amendment isn’t going to do sheet to protect their freedom of speech.

Definitely time the UK govt:

- ramped up the rhetoric around China’s treatment of HK nationals, and
- upped the ante by offering Hong Kong’s BNO passport holders unconditional UK residency rights.

Raab finally found a crumb of courage to at least say something yesterday, far more has to be done though and your suggestions should definitely be the next steps.

Wonder what @Twitter would have done if Churchill had tweeted "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."
