Basically if we don't play like Barcelona, and at least finish in the top 7/8. Then the season is a total failure
It is very hard to suggest our 'first choice' team cost more than £20-25m
OOA, our wage bill is higher than Southampton's and our net transfer spend over the last year has been much higher.
I couldn't care less how much the team at Old Trafford cost. Ove rthe last year our net spend on players transfer fees and wages has been higher than Southamptons. Please stop making out that we're paupers by comparison!

Stop exaggerating. I've never asked that we play like Barcelona. I've only asked that we play with an ounce of positivity in winnable games. Is that too much to ask? Really?

Southampton spent nearly £80m this season alone on transfer fees
Yes they brought a lot of money in. But the reality remains the majority of there starting line up cost £10m + each
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK. Please list the players they've spent £80 million on...
Long - £12m
Pelle - £9m
Mane - £13m
Bertrand - £11m
Forster - £11m
Tadic - £12.5m
Gaddis - £6m
In terms of fees for players. Our squad is miles behind, that's my point

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shane Long - undisclosed fee
Mane - £11.8 million
Pelle - £8 million
Bertrand - £10 million
Forster - £10 million
Tadic - £10.9 million
Gardos - £5.4 million
Even if Long was £12 million it would add up to £68 million (not £80 million). That means they’ve spent about £30 million less than they’ve spent!

But we've not had to sell anyone. It's about net spend. Southampton have generated money from youngsters they've been brave enough to blood in their first team. We've done that with one player - Berahino. Which brings us neatly back to the start of this thread.
Pulis is risk averse. Tonight is the perfect opportunity to blood a couple of young players. If they do well their value will go through the roof. If they don't play well we're no worse off!

As we've done against the 'better' teams recently. Absorb the pressure and hit them on the counter attack
If we can add a couple of wide players, couple of strikers and a left back in the summer. The squad has the base there to push on next season
