Sally Rooney's ordinary people Tv should be interesting.
The book was hyped up, I thought it was okay, but I can see it adapting well for TV.
1917.
Masterpiece.
Go see.

It's very good, glad you liekd it
Personally, it's not a "masterpiece", out of the films I have seen this year it's maybe my 7th or 8th favourite.

8th? We’re only 19 days into the year ffs.

I watched The Edge last night. As a cricket fan it was a brilliant watch, but I think it will entertain a broader audience.
And to throw another docu style classic at you, but from yester year.....have any of you seen Touching the Void?
Watched the Gentlemen earlier.
7/10. Fun watch but didn't offer the originality of say, Snatch

Watched Joker.
Whilst, there were quite a few things I really enjoyed in the film, I don't think it's worth the hype or controversy.
It wears it's influences on it's sleeve a lot, but is without he complexity and nuances of what made these films great to begin with.

I avoid cricket like the plague.
Touching the Void is interesting, you seen Free Solo?

Cricket is the most boring game ever invented.
Touching the void is brilliant, highly recommended.

Exactly, feels like a film school tribute to Scorsese and Lumet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, this is how I felt.
I found the references throughout a little over the top too, especially with Taxi Driver.
I like Joaquin's performance, and I thought the music and cinematography were okay.
The plot left a lot to be desired, but most of all it failed at being an interesting character study.
Thematically it was so stifled by making the main character a victim of society, rather than writing an intriguing character.
It's a good movie, but feels far inferior to the movies which inspired it

Indeed. Seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood yet?
Divisive movie but my favourite Tarantino flick since Jackie Brown.

No not yet! I'm going to be making sure I watch all the oscar nominations - so I will see it soon!

Watched 1917 on Sunday
As a production, the way it was filmed and the set's it's arguably the best thing so far this (short) year.
As a film I felt massively underwhelmed at the end.

I just hoped for a slightly better ending. As a production it was superb
Technical brilliant, and the two main actors were fantastic.
Sam Mendes is a great director.
