I think it's because Zac Snyder is lauded as a great director, and his films are all crap.

Is he lauded as a 'great' director?

I always viewed him as a like a 'cool' director who has made some interesting things. Watchmen for instance

I watched Army of the Dead. Nope.

Correct. Its not even enjoyable. It's not even silly fun. It's just so stupid without charm.

Watchmen buys him a lot of credit in the bank for me. Seriously underrated

300 I thought was fun. And it was the first film I ever saw alone at the cinema, so has some sentimental value (or just really sad ).

Watchmen is his best imo, though I've never read the comic series. I also liked Man of Steel more than most did. The rest I didn't much care for.

So nobody knows what to class Army of the Dead? I thought it was sci-fi mainly because it's a disease that changes everyone but then they decompose yet gain strength and speed as well as super drastic poses, fashion sense and a t-rex/Predator voice instantly. So that comes off as some sort of fantasy because gaining strength and speed when decomposing seems like magic to me. It's certainly not horror.

Aside from my pet hate of the overused ethereal slowed-down version of a classic song I thought this looked great.

Don't get me started on bad covers

Saw Midnight Run again, still a classic!

Watchmen wipes he floor with marvel, it along with Nolan’s Batman are the best in the genre. More cerebral thinking mans superhero movie.
