"If Ozil was worth £40+mil in the eyes of some, why is a more exciting player, with time on his side, valued less?"
Is this guy serious? Had a quick look at his username then remembered its Tux. So no surprises there.
If you need this explained to you then you're more lost than I thought.
Ozil is a ready made world class player. An elite playmaker.
Sterling is a good player. Nothing outstanding. Go figure.
Tbh I think the contract issue is to do with Sterlings ambitions rather than him having an attitude. Plenty of players have left clubs to try and better themselves, including the vast majority of the Arsenal squad. He only arranged his own interview to defend himself after getting abuse from loads of ex Liverpool players and being made out to look like he was just after the money. He wanted to put out his side, that this wasn't the case.
Maybe we are wrong, but me and a lot of other people think the kid is a pretty good player as it stands and at such a young age should improve quite a bit. Certainly City wouldn't be shelling out millions for him to take over Scott Sinclairs role at City, for that kind of money he'll be a first team player in the main.
I'd be more than happy if we had him at United, was the only Liverpool player I was really jealous of after Suarez left.
Strikes me as Anelka Mark 2, bags of potencial world at his feet but will never quite settle and always think he is better than what he is until too late.

Liverpool can demand £50m. But I don't think Sterling has the same attitude under pressure as Suarez to play to a high level if he is forced to stay. Sterling's performances were poor last season and that was just with speculation.
50m for a headless chicken

I guess there's a place free on City's bench now Milner's left.

Feel sorry for Raheem.
Footballers have a short playing career and the lad wants to win trophies.
Liverpool are effectively holding him hostage while demanding such a ridiculous fee.

£50mil is about the right price in this market

£50 million is ridiculous.
But as we saw with Bale, it's all about what a club are prepared to pay, and whether the parent club are prepared to sell.

Interesting that. Would you be happy to have a sub-par Sterling if you don't get £50m?
I'd love to keep him
He's being hugely underrated at the moment

Not even convinced he'll be a success at Man City for any price over £10m. Other than Hart, of all the English players they've bought since they had a bit of dosh probably Milner has been their most successful, or Barry: their grafters. Sterling isn't really a grafter. He'll be bought for his pace and skill admittedly but I'm not sure he'll rise to the pressure of playing for a much better team with lots of great players, and for a large pricetag.
I think Sterling's a lot better than people give him credit for.
I'm copying a post I made a couple of months ago, so apologies in advanced if some of what I said is slightly outdated, but:
He was ranked as the best performing teenager across the major leagues in Europe by both Whoscored.com, the second best by Squawka, and was later voted by a select of journalists from across the continent as the best Under-21 player in Europe as he won the 'European Golden Boy' award.
Ancelotti described him as 'one of the best in Europe', whilst Wenger described him as 'one of the great players in England'.
He's now strongly being linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Madrid, and PSG, with Xavi also earmarking him as a potential future Barcelona player.
Thus far this season, he's statistically the highest ranked player of his age (or younger) in the country by Whoscored, and the second best player of a comparable age in Europe according to Squawka.
He needs to work on his end-product, but the materials are there for a world-class player.
His speed is comparable to Walcott with one of the best turns of pace I've seen (remember how easily he burst past Salah), but he has great strength to match as well (just ask Vincent Kompany, for example); he can run faster with the ball at his feet than many players can without, and he's already one of the most prolific dribblers in the league; he seems equally comfortable taking his man on down the outside or drifting inside into space - making his movement very difficult to anticipate or defend against; he's comfortable making diagonal runs-in-behind, drifting in-between the lines, and/or holding the width and playing like a more pragmatic winger - allowing him to adapt to various systems and game-plans, but also making it very difficult for the opposition to plan for; and his work-rate/defensive qualities are very underrated as well.
He hasn't reached the heights he did last season, but this is likely partly symptomatic of Liverpool's problems as a whole (large influx of players; loss of Suarez; injury to Sturridge; Rodgers' changing of the systen) and the fact he's had to play in 6 different positions across the course of the season (he's often been played as a false-9, and even as a wing-back), but the talent is there to see.
Honestly, in the current market, I don't think £50m is actually that absurd.
Height of delusion > Lpool fans consider they are big club
Need reality check lads.
Sterling issue is weird. Him, his agent/family/friend and some Lpool fans think he is great player. I doubt any big club rate him (City are stupid and can splash cash on anyone). He wants to move but it's not as simple as Suarez...Suarez is on diff planet...Sterling will either rott in Lpool or he will end up somewhere in mid table club in couple of years time.
