My comments on Clyne are solely based on me not being that impressed by him in the handful of live games I saw last year that involved Southampton.
===========================================================
Did that include the game at OT when Southampton beat you, and Clyne got a higher rating in the newspapers than any of your players?
Ben Smitth, Tony Barrett and James Pearce are the only Journos I listen to.
Any particular part of his game you weren't impressed with?
...........
His defending looked OK. But I was not impressed by his ball retention and end product when he was further forwards. This is something I suspect LVG would not be keen on.
It is also one of my big gripes over Shaw. We were well mugged by Southampton there.

No.
Vidic talking more rubbish
Van Gaal could play three at the back like last season in which case a CB maybe more of a priority.

surprised United did not go for him.
................
I don't think he is good enough for us. Liverpool is about right though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Better than your current right back options though right? Valencia, Jones. Rafael seems to be out of favour with LVG for some reason (or has he been injured).
Out of interest which right back is good enough for you?

Liverpool have paid £60m for Southampton players in the last year
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't you pay half of that on one player who was deemed overweight?

TBF, in most games last season the opposition players were given a higher rating than United players. That doesn't really mean anything.
On the issue of Clyne, I think most United fans would be 'oh, ok then.' if we had bid for him and signed him. He's a good PL defender. Probably the sort of signing Fergie would have made (we looked at him when he was at CP a few years ago). Not overwhelming, not underwhelming. Not a great deal of difference in ability from our current options though.

Better than Valencia at RB, yes. Better than Rafa, no.

Well, what it means is that it would be an odd game in which to conclude that he’s unimpressive.
If he’s not overwhelming, and not underwhelming, that will do fine, for me, because we had a glaring problem in that position, so even with that rating, he represents a good signing.
What’s good, so far, from our point of view, is that we are no longer focussed on squad-building, but on addressing the immediate issues with the first-choice team.
Considering Utd fans don't want Firmino & Clyne they seem to be spending a lot of time justifying why they don't want them on our threads I wonder why?

Which is why he is good for Liverpool.
Not sure why some of you had an issue with that.

Rafa is inconsistent and injured a fair bit.
Clyne is one of the best young right backs in the league and bringing him in addresses a glaring problem in our team from last year.
I'm happy with this and all of our other signings and I'm that we aren't fecking around this season!
Great signing if it is pulled off. I said we shud have bought him at start of last season. Def improvement to the team if he joins at rb

It's ok because you can play that gurning idiot Phil Jones there instead!

Why would we want Firmino? We are already over stocked with players who play his position.
At RB we are not. Some of our fans rated Clyne, some did not. It is all a matter of opinion.

LVG doesn't seem to rate Rafa though and sees Valencia as a better option. And if Clyne is better than Valencia it looks as though Clyne is good enough for you.

Yes we can. I am very sure the manager would prefer not to though.

Depends on your perception of things.
From my perception, I want to see United challenging with the elite of Europe again. IMO neither Valencia or Clyne are good enough at RB for us to do that.
Since united have so many outstanding players who are they looking to buy? Serious question.

Course he is Rafael is brutal, an accident waiting to happen, a few nice strikes is clouding your judgement, doesn't know how to defend.
