He would still be your best player.

I don't think so.
The year we came second, Sturridge was in the short-list for PFA player of the year, along with Gerrard and Suarez (and, come to think of it, Lallana). Sterling was only on the shortlist for Young Player of the Year, and he didn't win that.

Last season wasn't a good one for either the team, or for Sterling. Sturridge didn't play much: he may turn out to be a sicknote, but he certainly isn't a dud. Sterling was played as a striker in Sturridge's absence: he did ok, but that's not where he's going to shine (if he is going to), so playing him in preference to Sturridge wouldn't make sense.

Yet Rodgers payed him up front for large parts of the season. If you really think he won't be a regular then I think you are a sandwich short of a picnic.

Plus this new kid flamingo, will he settle right away? Will Ibe who so far shown nothing of the level of Sterling progress?

I would prefer to face a lIverpool side without Sterling.....so hope he rots in the ressies

PFA means nothing.

sturridge is a dud, 1 good season, sterling is a much better player and not a dud

liverpool owners are praying he stays they arent' keeping a strong stance they are crapping themselves

Said before it would not suprise me to see sterling stay. The most difficult part of football is scoring, having sterling in the side helps; having firmino, sterling, coutinho, lallana and sturridge certainly helps.

Does anyone see what is going on here..

That Digby fellow is bored and WUMing

I didn't say he wouldn't be a regular.
I said he wouldn't be preferred to Sturridge in the striker's role. Rodgers only played him there because Sturridge was injured , and because he'd tried the other strikers and they weren't working out. It was a stop-gap.

Like I said, he did ok, considering it's not his position, but playing there is not a long-term prospect for him. He's not a very good finisher, for a start.

If think he won't be a regular because he won't be here.
He was developing well, but his reputation appears to have come on leaps and bounds since he turned down his contract, (in spite of a drop in performance levels) , but it won't harm his valuation, so it's all good.

I have always rated him. He would walk into the front three or out wide as he is one of the best MF/attacking players at the club. If he stays Rodgers would be mad to not play him.

Yeah, I know, Digby, most people will dismiss the views of fellow professionals (what would they know?), and log onto here instead to get the views of Sir Digby.

Big Opinions, Small Impact.
Do you think he would get into the side ahead of Mignolet, Digby?

Did sterling qualify for the PFA player of the year or just young player?

He qualified for both.
Bale won both at the same time, didn't he?

i dont like what hes saying so im going to make it personal

all i said was it doesn't mean much, there are more things to look at like consistency before an award given for a player having half a good season

I wum on the Leicester board as some of them reckon klopp is going there and cant see any reason why he wouldn't, much more entertaining

He wouldn't walk into the striker's role, is what I'm saying. We have Origi and Ings coming in, and possibly Benteke, because we had a problem there whether Sterling stayed or not. Playing Sterling there was a short-term stop-gap.

He would get into one of the supporting positions, but Coutinho had a better season than him last year, so the OP has a point from that perspective.

There's no way of knowing how Firmino will work out, but I suspect he won't be better than Sterling straight out of the starting blocks, because it doesn't often work out that way with new players.
