A.S. Livorno v Pride
Livorno
Meret
Lichtsteiner De Vrij Ely Monreal
Cataldi Valdifiori Tielemans
Mastour Zaza Juanmi
Pride
-------------------------Enyeama-------------------------
Coke------------Ayhan---------Koscielny---------Blind
---------------------------Pirlo---------------------------
-------------Wijnaldum----------Kouyate---------------
--------------------------------------------------------
Robben----------------Dybala---------------------Pedro
The first thing I think looking at Livorno's team on paper is that it is a bit average. They are decent players, the likes of Zaza, Tielemans etc., but apart from Lichtsteiner, nobody who I deem top drawer. The second thing is that they could do with someone top at centre back. They explain the player roles well, but I'd like to see a bit more overall team tactics. The substitutions are good
I'm not sure Pride going to a ridged shape without the ball is a good idea I assume rigid. The front three are great, as I've said on numerous occasions, the weak links in the side look like Kouyate and Ayhan. I like the rest of the side, and the tactics are decent.
The key battle here is the Pride wingers vs Livorno full backs, but this battle is in the wrong end of the pitch. I can see Livorno getting more in the middle of the park, but this is the most difficult game to decide a result. For that reason, the slots are allocated as follows:
Livorno 5 + 1
Draw 10
Pride 5
Livorno 2-2 Pride
An entertaining game where Livorno took an early lead to give them brief hope, but overall Pride had enough about them to get a draw. Both sides pushed for a late winner, but the draw was a fair result.
Livorno - Zaza 3' Tielemans 70' (Assists Valdiflori, Juanmi)
Pride - Dybala 16', 59' (Robben, Wijnaldum)
Southend v Battersea
Southend
-------------------Buffon————————
---Vidal—Schar-—Rudiger—--Kurzawa---
——————Strootman—Henderson———————
------Calhanoglu---Pjanic—Eriksen-----
—————----——Mandzukic--------------
Battersea
-------------------------Jefferson-------------------------
Montoya--------Rami------Otamendi--------Gaya
------------------Vidal------Wanyama------------------
---Lucas----------------------------------------Iniesta---
--------------------Bony------Alcacer--------------------
Southend's side has really come on from what it was, it looks like a good side with no real weaknesses. Terry is a loss and their defense needs better instructions, instructions such as telling Mustafi to man-mark does not work. They also didn't expect to be up against two strikers today. And it was a big surprise to have Sturridge upfront rather than Mandzukic, according to the tactics
Battersea are the better side on paper for me, just. I can see Bony having a good game against the Southend centre backs, I maybe would have put Iniesta central and gone for a 4-3-3 with him and Vidal box to box and brought in a winger. I don't particularly like Rami and I don't think Montoya is good enough. But clearly Battersea have gone for a good set of tactics.
Note:Battersea's substitutions late on pretty much make the draw impossible for me to give.
Southend 2 + 1
Draw 1 (Because I feel bad putting zero)
Battersea 8
Southend 1-3 Battersea
The Battersea team was riled up for this, wanting to win for their manager's final game. And they did so convincingly, partly because I took away all the draw slots
Southend - Mandzukic 90+4 (Eriksen)
Battersea - Vidal 40, Iniesta 52, Bony 55 (Lucasx2, Alcacer)
Taiwan v Fishguard
Taiwan
———————————— Cech
———— Demichelis — Glik — Chiellini
Coleman —— Alonso ——— Matic ———— Alaba
—————— Fabregas ——— Tevez
————————————Higuain
Fishguard
--------------------------Zoet
--Jedvaj-------------van Beek----------Hoedt
------------------------Hendrix
---------Hiljemark----------------Pröpper
Andrija Zivkovic-----Klaassen--------------Fischer
-------------------------Vietto
I don't like the formation that Fishguard have gone for, and as I said last week with the front four having no defensive worries, I can see things ending up pretty nasty for the Fishguard side, it's the same thing again pretty much. Having said that, there is a distinctive style about the players and tactics. However, their side on paper, as much as they are decent young players, are no match for the Taiwan side.
The Taiwan line-up looks very strong on paper, I would say the defense looks a bit weak and with the pace in the Fishguard side would get troubled. So that's great. However, some of the tactical decisions are wrong, Higuain is not a false nine upfront, and I would swap Tevez and Fabregas if you want a hardworking player to help out on the right. They also talk about Bonucci and Barzagli who aren't playing.
So overall, I've got a side which is stronger on paper, who's tactics are poor. And a side who have tried with an average side but at least have tried something. Also, as much as I don't think Fishguard's defense is right, Taiwan aren't playing wingers but two behind the striker so it would work a bit more here, but I'm still not convinced
Slot Split
Taiwan 2 (+1)
Draw 3
Fishguard 8
Taiwan 1-1 Fishguard
Fishguard looked on for the win for most of the game and probably just about edged it, but Taiwan have the quality in their side and sneak a draw with a late equalizer.
Taiwan - Tevez 88' (Alaba)
Fishguard - Klaasen 12' (Propper)

Nice game this, really like both set-ups and the contrast between the two manager's style, one going for established stars and the other going for players with huge potential to be the best of the next set of stars.
What I do like about Elsie's side is that although he plays some lovely technical football, with over half his side clearing 6ft he has that physicality as well

I've always argued that I see the team/tactics split as about 50-50, if you have the players but the wrong system, they're not going to perform. But the right players in the right game plan will do better than a bunch of nobodies in the same tactics. So it's natural for me to split the slots 5/5 based on team and tactics... With that in mind...
On paper, I prefer TBag's players, but coupled with the tactics, I felt that Tino had the better team. So that was 3/2 to Tino.
Tino's tactics were just better than TBag's, who quite frankly I don't think did them very seriously So yeah, the slots all went to Fiorentina I'm afraid.
Tino wins a third tainted title!

Trebs has wheeled and dealt and put together a very good side now. Good throughout although clearly weaker defensively down the right side due to absences. Decent setup, nothing over-complicated - good players in the right roles.
Fan half-ársed it this week with the title already sewn up; with such bare tactics I had to assume each player would play the "standard" way for their respective positions. Which is fine since all the players are a good fit for their positions, but Trebs clearly had the edge tactically this week given that he set up specific plans for opposition players.

With the best will in the world this was a mismatch; the home side may have some legends in there but they'd never be able to keep up with an excellent and vibrant Notts side, especially given the physical demands that would be placed on the twin #10s. I thought they'd struggle to see the ball let alone create much. Saying that, you don't lose your technical or mental capabilities with age and I reckon they've still got it in them to make a good chance or two for Milito.
I thought Alexis v Cashley was a mismatch and Morata would have a good time against the Tenby centre halves, though Milito could definitely work a yard against Jantschke.
