I always thought when van der Vaart left you guys it was because he wanted a move back to Hannover was it? Beautiful player who I couldn't believe you wanted to sell at the time. Every spurs fan I knew was devastated when he went.

Rafa one of my favourite Spurs players ever. What a star he was and so passionate to. Loved the way he schooled that f Uck Wilshire and give Arsenal the run around Everytime we faced them. His ability was superb despite fitness issues.
The two years Van der Vaart spent in North London, he is all too keen to offer, were the best of his career. It begs the question, why did he leave?
"It was a little to do with everything," he continues in the 40 degree heat gripping the south of Spain.
"It was private things, but also when what's his name [Andre Villas-Boas] came he said to me 'you're not my number one' and I had played two years, like, unbelievable, so for me it was really strange that he said that to me. So then I said, well, it's better to leave and that is what happened."
What's his name
What a div AVB was.
"It was a stupid decision, the most stupid in my career to leave Tottenham. I absolutely regret it because it was the best two years in my football life."
Knew he loved it at Spurs. Considering he has played for some amazing clubs and Spurs was his best 2 years in his career just goes to show what a great club this is.

Happy days...
Sadly, I don't think he would have been part of MoPo's plans either but that shouldn't detract from what he did for Spurs and its fans, he lifted us.
A modern Spurs great. A big game player, he took games by the scruff of the neck and became our Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Van Persie, Drogba, Suarez, etc - a man who could win us games on his own through sheer force of will. He never hid, he always wanted the ball, and he was always trying to make things happen.
Fitness, work-rate going towards his own goal and defensive capabilities could all be called into question, but going the other way he was an absolute gem. One of the best attacking players I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt. His finishing was exemplary, his whipped in free-kicks were always dangerous, and he was great at leading from the front in a way we haven't had too often in recent years - Berba, Keane, King, Bale and, last season, Harry Kane aside.
Also, he nearly always scored against Arsenal and you could tell what scoring meant to him. He never saw coming to Spurs as a step down after leaving Real Madrid, he embraced it fully and will be forever remembered as a legend by the Tottenham faithful.
I think we let VDV go at the right time. He wasn't the same player at the beginning of that third season - towards the end of his second season he was struggling with injuries and always had to be taken off around the 60-70 minute mark. He left at the right time, with the fans still holding him in extremely high regard, rather than playing on for another year or two and not being the majestic player we'd seen in the previous two years. VDV didn't fit AVB's style, in the same way he wouldn't really fit Poch's, but for that two year spell he was mostly an absolute joy to watch.
Lanespur, this is it VDV was a big time player. Any top game VDV would boss it and score. I was at the lane when we beat inter Milan 3-1 and he scored running across the whole East stand celebrating with us. Legend

Best goals - one against Liverpool, in the only time I can ever remember us winning at Anfield, where Rafa absolutely smashed the ball into the top corner. The one against Inter Milan, which kickstarted that remarkable win, was also pretty special.
And then the numerous goals against Arsenal - he really did become their nemesis for a while. What was it, 4 or 5 against them in his two year spell?
My favourite VDV goal was against Swansea (I think) when he just planted the ball in the top corner from a Bale cut-back first time, without breaking his stride. Outstanding technique.

my favourite was that breakaway goal v villa away.. what a finish !!!! and it was against villa too which makes it better
Villa at home. Sent Dunne almost out of the ground with a feign to shoot before rifling home.
My personal favourite VDV goal was that beautiful finish into the low corner against Villa at Villa park. It was a simple finish but struck with such finesse. I was just sitting there watching the tv in awe thinking how quality this guy is. VDV, come back home!!!
