But Nottingham is the City of Football isn't it?

Despite this being absolutely, 100% correct, the criteria chosen are subjective so it is really meaningless.
The criteria was 'great sporting cities' and we pi5sed it.
Having the title of greatest sporting city in the Midlands is a bit like being the better looking Neville brother....

On the same web page that we're declared the Midlands' greatest sporting city there is a link for a news article for another first for a Midlands city:
"Britain's first ever pot noodle vending machine unveiled in Nottingham"
You couldn't make it up!
That's why Derby was going to be one of the host cities for the world cup when we bidded for it in 2018......... oh wait.
Nevermind at least Derby has a big international cricket ground.........oh wait
Tennis Competition........oh wait
Even Water sport tournaments like at Holme Pierpoint?!
Even a marathon?
Horse racing.........oh wait
Anything!!!?!?!?!?
Clearly your bigger then nottingham though
P.S Who is going from Nottingham East Midlands Airport on their holidays this month
Who is looking forward to the ashes in Derby on Thursday?
They only got it because the city is the home of sheep tickling - which seems to be all the rage now.
Super, at least they do have one of the countries best hockey teams . . . oh hang on.
Didn't they haver a team in the women's cup final at the weekend . . . ooops my mistake.
What about their 3 times World Champion Boxer . . . wait a minute.
Aren't they the country's first and only "City of Football" (Official)
Come on guys, surely you have something to offer.
To be fair, they do have a Rollerworld
They also have The Derby horserace. But wait that is run at Epsom a much bigger sporting centre. Sorry sheepies, we're trying to help but it isn't easy.
Feel free to join in.
Who should we believe; g0bshites on a football forum or an independent assessment by trained independent assessors of sporting city goodness?
Derby: Home of Sport
Believe who you like, just remember beliefs aren't the same as facts and it can be dangerous to confuse the two.
Personally I prefer facts
Fiddy:
1) One of the country's hockey teams. There are no degrees of 'best' you either are, or you are not. As an example, Derby is the best sporting city in the Midlands, Nottingham is not.
2) Notts Carny Ladies lost in their match. See point 1.
3) Your so-called World Champ boxer lost his titles but was laughably given a draw and then, after the re-match, took a year trying to drum up the courage to take a proper challenger on. He bottled it, because he's not from a proper sporting city and knows no better.
4) City of Football? We're the city of sport, including football.
Thanks
Its all about the football for me, don't give two facts for anything else
I’ve had a quick look at how the results of this survey were put together. The main difference between the two cities is that Derby Scored 100 for ‘value for money’! I suppose when there are so many free seats, and you can’t get any better value than that!
Out of interest, the city of Derby scored ‘3’ for ‘sporting history’ – amongst the lowest of the whole survey. I am not sure whether the ‘sheep tickling’ thing was included under the heading ‘social’ or ‘local talent’ (probably a bit in both).
There is no denying,Nottingham is streets ahead in that up and coming sport "beachstabbin"
Where a boxer comes from should have nothing to do with great sporting achievments for the City unless he/she wins, defends their titles in that City.
Froch is a great boxer no doubt but to try and attribute that to Nottingham is ridiculous, especially as (although this shouldn't come as a surprise) he was unknown until Eddie Hearn got hold of him. Way to back and promote your own Notts
Manc... to some extent you are correct.
The tennis centre in Nottingham produces players from all over the country and hosts a good pre Wimbledon tournament. I notice some owd fogies playing at Nottingham Uni bowls green last week. The world Croquet championships were on.
I'm sure Derby has a few hidden specialist games hidden in the back streets and fields. Didn't the green wellie championship throwing take place in Derbyshire last year?
