Due diligence has to be carried out, irrespective of whoever we are trying to sign. This not only means looking at their ability, but also their lifestyles, background checks etc. These all take time & money.
Galvdad
This has been done regularly by PL clubs for the past 15 years or so.
United, Spurs & Arsenal have used Kroll (one of the top investigative agencies in the World) on many occasions when looking to sign players & also fill other positions within the clubs!

I have tried to argue just what you are saying for years now unfortunately certain posters think its like playing Football Manager on the computer and think you can just wave imaginary millions (which we probably dont have due to the building of a new ground) and suddenly you will have the best players and the best team in the world.
That does not excuse us regularly dropping points to teams who have lesser players than us mind

given some of the good for nothing herberts we sign....i highly doubt we do this...and if we do...we aitn very good at it.
does the same apply to coaches/managers
listen...playing ok...blah blah blah....doing the right things for the right reasons yes....given the new ground we can't go big...and when we did go big bith have failed....fair enough.
but what i cannot forgive is the same mistake's time and time again....letting leads slip....conceding right after going in front brain fart moments.
how can we not find a coach/manager that can set up a defensive unit.
i think we need to be careful what we wish for, levy is the perfect person to make sure we go into the stadium on a good financial footing, i agree sometimes he is very frustrating in his dealings, but he always has the best interests of the club at heart. Not been the best of the starts but its early days and still plenty to play for , keep the faith.
very good article. 5 stars
Genius
I'd forgotten what rational, non-ranty, non-delusional posts looked like
Can't say I agree... Levy is a boardroom Genius but in terms of football he is p1ss poor.
We continually rotate managers. He thought we was signing a coach in pochettino that would train our kids yet we are now buying other people's developed talents for 15m plus instead of playing our talent.
He continually looks for obvious option in managers instead of really analysing what we need.
AVB was only signed because he saw him at Chelsea not because we scouted a talented manager
Poch was signed because of ONE season at Southampton
We sign players that have good games against us without analysing their performances over seasons.
We occasionally unearth gems of players but they are never supported by quality in the transfer market and end up leaving after one season of high performance.
In short are where we deserve to be. Just outside the champs league not making any major progress but off field we are an incredible success story.
Sadly I prefer to be inside the stadium than outside it for match days so off field developments whilst amazing are not the reason I support Spurs.
I have to agree with virgo and have said it enough times before Levy is very good from a business perspective but in his time at Spurs has only made one successful managerial appointment and that was Rednapp. Jol done ok but that was not really his choice as such was it?
