Wasn't Ronaldo the most expensive teenager ever at the time we signed him? He worked out okay too.

This shows that we are a club all about bringing through youth and not trying to buy success like City and Chelsea. The fact that 4 of the top 5 are United youths is old testiment to our academy and philosophy.

Doubt RR, Saviolas deal must have been somewhat before that.

If you read my comment more carefully, you'll notice that I said 'most expensive teenager in English football'.

I'll backtrack further if necessary.

Anderson wasn't £25m.

It was £18m.

posted on 1/9/15

Anderson left with close to 200 appearances, 4 PL winners medals, 2 league cup winners medals and a CL winners medal.

I would hardly call that a MASSIVE failure.

Saviola and Cassano were failures.

Anderson proved that to be a success in the prem you can't have a second name as your first name and have no second name, not with the demands of the prem.

Some of your figures are wrong

Anderson was £18m
Shaw was £27m
Rooney was £27m

In 8 years he averaged nearly 23 games a season, even less when you look at the amount he started.

And it's not like he was massively influential in us winning those trophies.

Isn't martial an initial 44 million?

This was according to the telegraph.

he obviously made enough appearances during those title winning seasons to warrant a medal... or did we lose all the games he played in during those spells

im not saying he was the greatest signing ever, but he was hardly a MASSIVE failure as stated in the OP.

in fact his first season with the club was a good one, he played well during that PL and CL double season.

1. Martial to United for 36 million

Who?

8 seasons and he didn't play very often from the start and had one good season.

I was actually a fan of Anderson as he had talent but it just didn't work out for him. On an individual level he was a massive failure.

The fact we won trophies inspite of him doesn't change that.

Could've saved yourself a bundle and kept Welbeck

Fees are sometimes "undisclosed", as was the case in the first two mentioned, so we don't really know.

However, it's possible that some of the lower figures provided for those deals relate to fixed amounts and do not include potential add-ons.

In Anderson's case, Porto reported a fee of €30M, which was about 20M squid at the time.
Taking into account that his earlier seasons (those in which he appeared more often) were peppered with success for the club, it seems reasonable to assume that a lot if not all of the conditions for Porto to receive potential add-ons were met.

In Shaw's case, if there are also add-ons it's too early to tell, though CL qualification might have triggered some extra payment if he made the required no. of appearances.
