Clearly out, and Australia have every right to appeal for that.

I read all the twitter posts and had the firm impression that he had been hard done by....

Then, when i saw it first time in real time i thought it was outrageous for him to be given out..

But, having watched it in slow motion and then again in real time it is clearly obstruction.

He watches the ball, lines up his hand and then turns away...i do think it was purely instinctive, but it is defInitley .............OUT!

Nope it's not out at all. Aussies should be ashamed of themselves for even appealing for it! i's no surprise though. They always cheat and get away with it time and time again!

Yep mate, remember when they bowled the last ball along the ground against NZ? Cheating baztards!

I'm of the opinion that it was definately out. Aussies well within their rights to claim and take the wicket.

While the BBC and Sky Sports gave the impression Stokes had been extremely hard done by I have to say it can be viewed as both out and not out in my eyes depending on how both the incident and law of the game are interpreted. The rule does suggest "willingly" obstructing the ball from hitting the stumps but then again is what Stokes did a natural flinching reaction to the ball being thrown at him or is his hand purposefully reaching out to quickly stop the ball so far away from his body? I guess the only person who could answer that question is Stokes himself. There are very few grey areas in Cricket but we may have found one.

In terms of sportsmanship - could it all have been avoided? Yes. If Smith had withdrawn his appeal. However despite Morgan quickly stating he would have called a player back in that case, professional sport is an unforgiving place and who knows if Stokes could have ended up even winning the game for England. This similar ruthlessness is what has kept Australia at the top of the Cricketing pile for so long.

For those claiming sportsmanship, then how come it was fine when Collingwood did worse couple of years ago against New Zealand.. Why only blame Aussies?

Feel free to elaborate!

England crowd/fans were able to pressure Dhoni to take his appeal back but they will never be able to against Aussies.. Being an Indian fan, it was sad to have such a weak test captain but I'm sure Smith is lot better to handle such pressure situations!!

Oh it was 2009.. Anyways we should respect all Nations as we all are cricket fans; instead of insulting the whole country for few bad incidents..

I think the correct decision was made and Stokes was rightly given out.

Take care folks n peace out.. Looking forward Ind-SA series. I hope we do lot better in tests at-least at home n don't care for any T20 games!!

He had already moved his body out of the way and then he sticks his hand out??? If he wanted to protect himself, he wouldn't have tried patting the ball away, he'd more likely just caught it. But his immediate reaction at sticking his hand out was like wtf have I just done?

Whichever way you look at it, OUT!

Well said bro but some folks here don't seem to see or think rationally and talk with emotions coming from their rear ends lol...
