Thats some impressive back 4 they will have now.
I only wish Wenger could/would close off deals as quickly as some other managers
My beloved club has lost its aura!
Is there no time for Arsene to put in a bid!?
Can you blame him though?
I'm actually glad, if we had spent £17M on a 19 year old centre back i would have been fuming, would rather see it spent on experience.
Reality is, United have been buying up players at extortionate prices like this, for the last 15 years, pretty much so no one else can get them. I'm amazed at how they can justify it, with all the debt they're in....
Seems to good to be true. Let's hope gill doesn't Ness this up.
He's a bulldozer. Good signing.

======================================
Discounting the debt which was pretty much bourne upon the club by the Glazers, they can justify it by the fact they have won countless trophies and the revenue generated in that time has more than paid for the player and more....
You have to speculate to accumulate.
True true, let's not forget though, that ethos has brought clubs to their knees in the past. That's extremely unlikely here of course, it's all hypothetical...
It's frustrating that they seem to be able to buy without impunity, and that we never seem to take that route, i just hope Wenger doesn't carry on his penny pinching ways this summer, or we could miss out on many more players....
I think excess of 120m by winning league and runners up in cl should just about cover it.
facts are players move tom clubs with ambition, Man Utd have it arsenal do not....... thats the difference between the managers, Fergie still has the drive, Wenger just moans and moans and moans.
Cant believe some people like to wave their willy about regarding other clubs debts.
What on earth has debt got to do with us. Nothing
Fair enough have a bit of banter about results and trophies etc but debt
Might aswell start comparing income statements you big bunch of sissies.
lol, isn't it sad that other clubs football results are so inferior to ours, they make fun of our debt instead
And BTW, we're a big club. When have you ever heard of a big club crashing because of debt? The likes of Leeds and Portsmouth are not big clubs, so it can happen to them.
All these WUMS who think we're going to collapse are living in cloud cuukoo land.
United will never go the way of Leeds because they are a worldwide brand and have the revenue to be able to handle the debt very comfortably.
Right, so this is a sports forum correct, and this part is about football, all aspects of football, correct?
So with the regulations that FIFA are bringing in for 2012 or whenever it is, to do with clubs that are in huge amounts of debt being sanctioned, you don't think that this is relevant to modern football?? Get real mate, Chelsea are as bad as any of the clubs with regards to that.
What does that have to do with us, you ask..
Well technically nothing, but neither does managing the club, the players that are bought etc, but your happy to debate about that...?
I was simply making a point, a valid one i think, about the money being thrown about by the top clubs, that was all, and if you think it's not relevant then i suggest you pull your head out of the sand, because it's a massive part of football these days.
I don't think the banks would let a club like Man Utd go under anyway...
Venkies starting to see the rewards of their investments They may even spend 2 million of it on a replacement (although I doubt it)
Last summer we spent less that £20M on Chicharito, and Bebe, hardly megabucks?
The fact is, we speculate, and then accumulate silverware, which brings further financial rewards.
Our debt is shrinking, despite the made up numbers I see the ABU's throwing about.
left right and centre, day in day out we see "buy experience!" "why does wenger never buy experience?"
now you're berating him for not spending ludicrous sums of money on a 19 year old bag of potential.
makes your minds up.
It's frustrating that they seem to be able to buy without impunity, and that we never seem to take that route
---------------------------------------------------
WTF
This coming from the tem who buy all their players aged about 14 from france & Spain.
Arsenal haven't had a top notch player through their ranks for years (don't throw WilTshire at me he's proved nothing yet).
I haven't once said United will go under, that would be ridiculous.... I also agree that they've won a lot, and by definition will have earned a massive sum of money, fair enough..
I'm saying that with the numbers that were released a few months back, from official reports, not people on a football forum. Showed that United were still in a considerable amount of debt, i was simply stating that spending 17 million on a 19 year old centre back seems excessive, i know he's a fantastic prospect and i'm sure they can more than cover the costs, it just seems crazy...

get real mate, you don't think your doing this too, of course you are, and the money being spent is nothing in comparison to the amount your allegedely spending on Jones....
Last summer we spent less that £20M on Chicharito, and Bebe, hardly megabucks?
===================================
From recolection it was roughly around 25.
Anyway, our cl revenue from running up was 75 million alone. Thats a fair amount of money
It's a hell of a lot of money to pay for a 19yr old CB with limited Premiership experience. Personally I think whoever gets Gary Cahill (quotes of £17m) will be getting the better (more experienced) player.
I certainly don't begrudge Utd paying this for the lad, if they see potential in him and are looking long term, then that's up to them, it is after all, their money. I also applaud them for not resting on their laurels, they win the title and immediately begin to strengthen, something which AW has been guilty of neglecting in the past??
The only thing to add, is that one of our main rivals has just spent more money on a 19yr old CB than our record transfer fee!! Yet we still get taunted "6 years" in the media!!
