doesnt Owen have some sort of system where if anyone is spotted on his property the police are immediately contacted
Results of this governments severe austerity measures unfortunately, things will only get a lot worse

This isn't the government's fault, footballers getting robbed has been happening for ages. Gerrard's wife was held up by a gang of thieves a few years back when he was at an away game in Europe.

expect him to sign for PSG this summer
why don't footballers just have security guards in their homes 24/7?
-------------------------------------------------------
because one security guard or 2 on their own is useless against a team of thieves armed with bats or worse... if you start beefing up security to more, especially 24/7 then you're talking paying out a small fortune.... which unless you have a hell of a big security detail still may make little or no difference
--------------------------------------------------------
" doesnt Owen have some sort of system where if anyone is spotted on his property the police are immediately contacted"
---------------------------------------------------------
until the police can teleport, robbers could still get in and out by the time they get there
I doubt all footballers are the same, but I imagine many would still try to lead a normal family life when away from the press, training ground, matches etc.
Perhaps having security and bringing the 'celebrity' feel back home with you is crossing a barrier to complete isolation from a normal life?
For what they bring home per week though, I would definitely try and somehow have a couple of discreet guards at the gate/border if it meant my family were kept safe.
move next to a police station
Shugs, Cleverley is earning millions.. as is his model/actress wife. I don't think a small fortune will affect them, especially with a little girl who they need to look after.
Wonder if the insurance will fork out for all the robbed items.

they'll be paying a fortune for insuarance
Isn't that why you pay for insurance?
Wasn't Scholes' car robbed one morning too?
He started it, and left it running. Went back in the house and when he returned, the car was gone.

Yeah.
Insurance won't pay out on that though as they keys were in the ignition, the car unattended

I know he's earning plenty.... but you're not talking someone with the profile of Beckham etc who needed United to provide bodyguards etc after kidnap threats against Brooklyn.
for 24/7 security... worthwhile security, bodyguard trained, close protection types (anything less and its pointless)... team of at least 8-10 or more to cover hours.
yeah price it against cost/risk of getting robbed when everythings insured.
all the players will have high end security systems, panic alarms linked to quick response teams from security agencies and police... the robbers will have a limited time to be in/out and away... minutes.
Don't be a hero, give them the jewellery and claim

I was going to say it's a very stupid thing to do.
However, I do it when it's cold and I'm a fecking genius.
This stype of thing is not uncommon anymore it is happening all the time.
I used to run bars in Manchester for years and I have had similar situations. After locking up at night I have had on 2 occasions a bunch of Salford scallies bust into my restaurant or bar and beat me or my staff up for money.
I have had shotguns held at my head and my chef was once attacked with a machete.
They are morons and usually get found out and beaten by some heads from town.
