For production values maybe.

It's certainly the decade of decline as far as lyrics and experimentation go

Idlewild - The Remote Part

There were some good albums by Kasabian, Artic Monkeys and The Libertines and the media were desperate for a second coming of "Britpop" but it never happened, not enough bands of sufficient quality IMO.

I honestly think you can trace this back as far as 1997 and the reaction to the good, but by no means brilliant, Urban Hymns. For me this was the "zeitgeist" of the years 2000-2009: trying to evoke the previous decade's zeitgeist. I agree with the poster above who said The Strokes were pretty average. I think Franz Ferdinand were probably the best of what I consider a generation of "nearly men".

Lex if I can suggest it, you should listen to Poison Season straight through beginning to end. Like albums should be enjoyed. Its amazing.

Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Justice - Cross
Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesounds (Revolutionised pop music at the time, no one was touching Timbalands production on that album)

Really try to avoid the 'shuffle' setting on my iPod these days.

Listening to albums start to finish is where it's at

Great shout

Rewind, Fill Me In and Rendez-Vous were played at EVERY party I went to when I was 15-16.

Play by Moby was everywhere as well, great album, as was Elephant by The White Stripes.

Who's Kissing Cameras?

Radiohead - Kid A, Amnesiac, In Rainbows

All brilliant, of course, but how can you omit Hail to the Thief - for me, their best album since OK Computer?

First Strokes album is amazing. Not a duff tune on it.

There's no doubt the media were desperate to push indie bands on us, but I think the reason it really died out or was nipped in the bud druing the early 00's was down to dance music and American "hip-hop" becoming far more influential

No. Just that the impact they had wasn't that big.

I agree, but there were some real strong lyricists that came out in that decade, such as Blu, Lupe Fiasco, Cam'ron, Jay Electronica, Clipse.

And the rappers from the 90s continued to drop amazing albums, which matched up to their earlier discographies such as Common, MF DOOM, Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Scarface.

I remember quite liking some of the stuff on that album by Them Crooked Vultures.
