Wage bills can be misleading. Agents know English teams have a lot more income and they can demand a lot more here.

I heard Lewa is only on 120k there, we'd have probably had to give him 180k if we'd brought him from Dortmund.

Hmm not sure about that in Arsenal's case vs Bayern. Isn't Lewa a bit of an anomaly for one of their best? Robben and Ribery are on much more along with others.

City, Chelsea and United have near bottomless pits of money and for various reasons aren't as attractive as top European sides so often pay over the odds. (Chelsea and City have no history and Manchester is a dump).

Arsenal's stars are on normal wages but our young fairly unproven talent is rewarded with completely disproportionate wages at the first sign of form.

English players in England are often paid double their real value too.

Definitely agree about high wages for lower Prem teams as they're incredibly rich compared to their equivalents abroad.

Last night was not tactics. Firstly they are better than us. Secondly, we had no Walcott, Bellerin or Ox on the break.
There is no way they could ever play like that with those players in our lineup. The high backline.

Pep is a brilliant manager, but he definitely had much better tools at his disposal last night.
The counter to the high press is having technicians who can control it in tight spaces and quick forwards as an outlet. We had the former in Ozil but lacked the latter; meaning Bayern camped in our half.
People are going over the top though. I still tip one of Barca or Real (whose manager i also rate ) to win the big ears.
p/s: still cant believe Douglas Costa was available for £22million and we did not make a play for him.

That's my point. We had no outlet (Walcott). Bayern would never be able to play they way they did if we had him, Bellerin and Ramsey.

Please quit mentioning Ramsey as an outlet
He has no pace and if anything frequently slows down our attacking forays.

Ramsey is not an outlet. But he has the most stamina of all our midfield players. That means he does all of Santi's running for him. This allows Santi to carry the ball forward from the midfield with the confidence Ramsey can slot in behind or in the middle to stop any counter were he to lose the ball with a poor pass or sloppy dribble. That pushes us up the pitch a few yards while still remaining compact as a unit.

However none of it works without Theo stretching the opposing defenders.

What Jenius said. Ramsey is an important player.

"How do they execute that insane high line and how the fack do they keep the ball like that and press so effectively"

they have much better players is all

it's not the tactics, it's the quality. and the best of the best play outside of England

They also have the right tactics for a high line. Without the right tactics a line as high as theirs is football suicide.

Exactly. Tactics dictate team selection. Its not the other way round. You buy players that fit the style you want to play. Bayern have pace in their CBs. They have a world class keeper who can sweep. They have midfield players who can keep the ball and they have a relatively fast striker who offers a threat in behind forcing the opposing CBs to play deep.

All round fantastic work by Pep Guardiola.
