"....when will we cease to be a team in transition?"
When we begin to be a team in consolidation.
I suppose you could argue that good teams are always in transition because they should always be looking to improve. But in reality this is a cliche that's often used when a team isn't doing well.
Main thing that's perpetuating Wolves transition is that we are always waiting for the next transfer window because we have always messed up the last one.
I guess we will be in transition for a while yet because it would be good to get to having a settled team, but nobody, including the manager, is sure what our best team or formation would be.
"I suppose you could argue that good teams are always in transition"
I suppose you could argue that poor teams are always in transition as well. it's just that they are transiting in a downward direction.
I think building a team around youth takes time, young players will need time to gel as a team and improve as footballers, are we in transition I have no doubt we are, the only question left is how successful or not we will be.
As for how long 2-3 years, would be my timescale.
The trouble with building a team around youth, the way Wolves are doing it, is that the youths will be aged around 47 by the time success comes along.
"are we in transition I have no doubt we are, the only question left is how successful or not we will be"
Disagree. The question is, which direction are we going
The way the club is run at the moment, we will always be a team in transition. If any youth prospect proves to be good enough, it will not be long before they are snapped up. This means we start again, as it is unlikely any money we make from player sales will be properly reinvested in the first team squad.
TRANSITION
The process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another. Not always for the better.
In our case, a decent Championship team to an average Championship team.
Depressing ain it.
1) Window opens
2) Sell the one or two players that have been successful that season
3) Let go a few that haven't made the grade
4) Bring in a new batch with potential
5) Have an average Championship season
6) Go to 1)

How long did McCarthy take? Not a provocative question, but just the first thought that occurred to me on reading the above.
"How long did McCarthy take?"
He did it fast. Assembled a side to win the Champonship, with two fingers to he rest. Will always have my respect for that,
I respect your opinion Butey.
Likewise I also respect the opinions of those that think he should have taken the club into the Champions League places whilst being one of the bottom three wage payers in the division.
In fairness, Dave Edwards should know, he has been the biggest benefactor of all these transitions, just when you think he is surely done a place becomes available again.
I know it was by design, but it is easy to forget how young a team we have.
If Edwards should feel lucky what about the rest of the squad?
How many of our back four have deserved a place this season and how many times have they lined up because we have absolutely no competition?
Would Price hold down a place (however sporadically) if Jackett could sign a midfielder who can tackle and pass forward?
McDonald has acted like someone who should have formed the nucleus of the next bomb squad until he got his way over his contract.
Have any of our wide players shown they deserve to be in a top half team this season?
And there is of course there's Afobe. Contrast and compare his attitude and the way he has applied himself this season to what we saw from Sako when he was linked with moves away. It's becoming more and more apparent why Arsenal wanted shot.
But lets not worry about them ay? Lets just stick a middle finger up to Edwards again.
#brokenrecord.
Players who establish themselves at the club they joined as a kid tend to be the exception in the main. The vast majority of young players tend to need a change of environment & exposure to different coaching methods before they become fully seasoned professionals.
The hope is that the likes of Wallace, Byrne, Hause, Coady, Afobe, (maybe even Saville & Rowe) will develop from where they are now as a result of their moves. Afobe certainly seemed to have done, but now looks a bit stale!
Batth, Price & Iorfa on the other hand may benefit from moves to other clubs to round out their games.

We have a lot of promising youngsters, just that Kenny doesn't seem to be handling them well, dumping defenders in the mix with nowhere to hide, setting them back months at a time whilst giving attacking players 60 mins here and there and ignoring them for a few weeks.

You did....
" In fairness, Dave Edwards should know, he has been the biggest benefactor of all these transitions,"
I read that as saying he wouldn't have a place if it wasn't for all the transitions going on, and that he is therefore lucky those transitions are happening or he'd be on the bench at best.
Did you mean something different?
I chose not to pick up on the fact that you meant beneficiary rather than benefactor

Aye, poor use of words, my apologies.
I simply meant that he has been pushed out fairly often, even by Jacobs, but outlasts them all and has been through several transitions.
So he is lucky to be the best player we have in his position?
Doesn't that mean everyone who starts is at least as lucky as most of the other ten aren't as good as him and could therefore be more easily replaced?
Losing me now tats, luck has nowt to do with it.
Better players come and go, some we should have kept, some we shouldn't, Edwards thanks to his great professionalism is always ready.
Not gonna get into an Edwards debate, you think he deserves a place, I don't.
FFS, is Kenny sending them out in some sort of order to defend his lack of success this season?
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/
Next up, Afobe blaming Dicko's injury for his own lack of ambition or Batth telling us that Stearman wasn't sold to Fulham but kidnapped by Barry Hearn and forced to work as a mercenary somewhere in the West End.
Golbourne, the player missing sako more than anybody.
