I think you have some decent players. But the whole season has been rotten from the outset.
Sherwood approached the season wrong by telling everyone "We will be fine. No relegation battle this year". That psychology ran through the players minds for the first 5 or 6 games and you could see it. Players didnt really try. "We will be fine".
Then appointing Garde... by the time he was appointed you needed a Pulis/BigSam or even Moyes figure. Someone to make the prima donnas grind out results.
Now it is almost certainly too late. You have a decent enough manager but clearly he was the wrong man at the wrong time. And you have players who now feel they are down and arent really interested any more. They just dont have the mindset to play for 90 minutes. They are thinking of new contracts and moving on.
But at the end of the day, what does it really matter? Being in the PL with it's rigged top six (more or less) and competing for mid-table money.. is that what matters? Surely it'd be more fun to watch your team in a league where you might win some games again and the league isnt predictable. Like football used to be!
Don't agree our players have no fight or don't care. They're trying, and there are signs of improvement with Garde. If Garde can get them functioning as a team against Newcastle they definitely have a chance. Newcastle may have better players on paper but they've yet to prove they can put together a string of good team performances. Krul is injured, Coloccini is prone to mistakes, they rarely play for 90 minutes. They're not out of the woods by any means.

Top 6 rigged? Leicester and Chelsea fans may not agree with you.
There's really only one reason why we are right down the bottom rather than somewhere between 13th and 17th, and that is the abysmal strike force we have. Ayew is a fine prospect but that's it.. I can't think of any other club which has so little upfront. That's why its hard to see where our next win is coming from.
Having lost Benteke, which was probably unavoidable, who on earth thought Gestede would be a suitable replacement? It's not just that he can't control the ball or finish with his feet. He doesn't know how to be a striker. He doesn't make things happen by making runs or losing his marker. He just stands around the edge of the penalty area with his hand in the air.
Shouldn't blame Gestede, it is not his fault, it is the fault of the person who wanted him at the club. You only have to watch him for one match to see that he is not a premier league player.
Hopefully a new striker will appear in January but unless we get at least 2 wins from our next 4 games it will be too late.
Well Gabby can leave apparentl, so maybe an offer to Paul Lambert for Rhodes, Gabby seemed to be a favourite of his..
Rhodes and Gestede did very well together maybe an option? I duuno if we are still rooted to the bottom who is gonna join
