Episode 3 is actually my second favourite film out of the six Star Wars films

Again, I remember thinking coming out the cinema, dammit, now George has hit his stride with these prequels, and it’s ended!

I know. I gave the first two a wide birth because they were deliberately more colourful, happy reflecting the peaceful time in the galaxy as opposed to EP3 4, 5 and 6

They certainly had moment but EP3 really is absolutely action packed and despite the speed of Anakin’s turn from reporting Papa Palps to killing kids, it really was a great portrayal of where he ended up and obviously his battle with Obi.

That fight from start to finish was absolutely incredible and something fans were waiting for for literally decades.

Oh for sure, one of the greatest fights ever put to screen. You never tire of it, and with the classic music.
Chills man. And I didn’t think it could get any better than the Darth Maul fight.
But man, was amazing.

Episode 3 is probably my favourite movie after the original 3.

Episode 1 and 2 have some truly iconic moments too. Irrespective of your thoughts about those two movies, the podracing scene,duel of fates music and the darth maul saber fight will always be legendary.

I really like attack of the clones, like any movie from back there its got some less than stellar CGI. but its better than any of the sequel trilogy comfortably.

Didn’t love the maul fight as much as most. There were some weird happenings like at one point maul or obiwan seem to strike qui gons leg with a lightsaber but with no effect and then we have the infamous obiwan feign head-but manoeuvre whatever the fk that was. Then the force speed which they used to get away from the droidekas but obi thought it better to causally jog by comparison to catch up to qui gon.

Loved the nod to this fight in rebels though when obi wan finished maul by predicting that he was going for the same sabre shove as he did against qui gon and this countered it Uber quickly

It is pedantry, I agree and yes the lightsaber spinning in EP3 was just for show but in total they had like 10 minutes of fighting and there isn’t much to nitpick out of all that.

Dooku vs Anakin - the result was bang on but I do wish it had lasted a little longer and then Anakin getting spanked. What we got is probably closer to reality as Dooku is one of the best one on one duellists in history of the Jedi order. Just wanted to see MOOOOREEE

I think they wanted to show the difference in skill betwern Dooku and Anakin, hence the speed at which he dispatches him.

In episode 3, we see Anakin holding his own, which displays how powerful Anakin has become and then he eventually kills Dooku, which was all part of Palpatines plan. Dooku unfortunately wasn't relevant anymore.

My only real criticism of the episode 3 lightsaber fight is how Palpatine was portrayed as being significantly stronger than Yoda, which isn't the case.

The scene where Palpatine starts throwing the senate seats at him like they were frisbees and Yoda struggles to dodge them and then even to stop them using his force ability.

Yeah I really didn’t love the Yoda vs papa palps fight.

Best Palps fight hands down is him vs maul & savage

In terms of strength vs Yoda - in fairness this was peak dark side and the light side at its weakest and caught off-balance if you will. A similar criticism is how quickly Palps Lightning’d up Yoda and another would be the film’s portrayal of palps destroying three Jedi masters in what was a pathetic visual display. The more accurate depiction would be that he moved so fast that it was just a blur of red but in the film it really came across as absolutely pathetic and you’re just thinking ‘hang on, these are Jedi masters?!’

One of them was like a 3 second lunge from palps with a two second preparation pull backwards lol

I previously thought that Yoda was the stronger of the two but as I've gone through books and other stories surrounding the two, I feel both were equal during their primes and during the latter stages of the clone wars, Palpatine was the stronger.

Of course but that shouldn't be a reason for not doing the live action scenes justice. I've yet to see any Anakin or Obi Wan fight in animation that surpasses the ROTS fight.

Windu in the 2003 show was at his finest and his involvement in the clone wars tv show was great too. I think his role in the movies was limited intentionally, as they wanted to focus more on Anakin/Obi Wan.

I think in a pure saber fight, Windu would beat Palpatine but in terms of mastery of the force, Palpatine was the king. He allowed himself to be disfigured by Windu because he wanted to turn Anakin but he also wanted to use it as proof that the jedi had attacked him. It's the same way Palpatine played Dookue against Anakin until the last moment and then Palpatine instructed Anakin to kill him, without any remorese. Palpatine was a master puppeteer and his intelligence and ability to move the chess pieces around the board without others suspecting him of foul play was utter genius.

Yes it was genuinely org4smic

It’s stylistic preferences really but I do prefer the lightsaber fights where it is two folk battering away at each other and “looks authentic”. It’s why I could never get that excited about the yoda battle with palps as it was really heavy on CGI by necessity, and similarly Anakin OWK by set design.
