I suspect casual fans enjoyed the series.

That's a bit dismissive tbh. I've discussed OB1 with 3 groups of people: this thread, my SW game guild and real life friends. All would describe themselves as massive SW fans, most would be pretty well read around material/books outside of the mainstream releases. This thread is the most negative about OB1 and by a very long way. The insinuation that if you liked OB1 you're just a casual SW fan is a bit reductive IMO.
I was actually talking to a mate about the series at a BBQ this weekend, he was saying he loved the line from Vader saying "you didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did" because it linked up to Old Ben's comment in ANH about Vader killing Anakin. Gave a bit of depth to the truth 'from a certain point of view'. Hadn't occurred to me before.

That's not my experience. Not the conversations I've had.
Very few people say it's great or amazing. Nobody has said it delivers on it's potential. But lots of people enjoyed it.
I really dislike the use of 'real fans'. I'm in my mid-40's and have loved SW as long as I can remember. I lividly recall going to watch RoTJ at the cinema. My walls were covered in SW wallpaper, duvet cover was SW. I've read a load of the spin off books. When TPM came out I took the day off work to go and see it on opening day. I could probably go on but you get the picture.
And yet there is an insinuation from some that I must be a casual fan or not a real fan because I got some enjoyment from a series that you didn't? I mean, how arrogant is that?! Am I in the minority - very possibly. But your opinion, even if it is held by a majority, doesn't define what a 'real fan' should think.
I respect your dislike of the series and understand the reasons. Perhaps you could open your mind up to the possibility that genuine SW fans did get some enjoyment from OB1.

Then ask yourself why there are zero critic reviews allowed on IMDB for the show?
Why was it removed from rotten tomatoes .... it was getting slaughtered on there so was taken down.
You are literally the only SW fan that thinks it was good.
I thikn your misreading on here then I dont think anyone says or thinks you are a casual fan? I would say the vast majority that come on to talk on this thread about it are more than casual fans?
I didnt say it should define anyone opinion fan or not but the evidence is out there that this has tanked with the SW fanbase and the critics.
Dude you dont need to convince me that real SW fans did enjoy them . there is a huge group of SW fans who get hard just seeing the scrolling text and will accept anything because they get to see something else new from SW regardless how dross the majority think it is.
You need to ask yourself why is that the most hate coming for this show is from the fans, not average Joe down the road who thinks its fine. The fans who are aware, cos thats where the criticism is coming from the critics and the fans, they are the ones that can see the glaring errors (other than the idiotic writing and scene directing) its not coming from the average viewer who isnt aware of the continuity errors who were not sold the ultimate rematch.
*You are literally the only SW fan ON HERE that thinks it was good. missed out the "on here" bit sorry bud.
the average viewer is not aware Leia shouldt be in this, the average viewer is not aware of Reeva has actually done in her past to make her arc mind numbingly stupid
I enjoyed it but I’m not hugely fussed about the “lore” outside the on-screen stuff and can get on board with “suspension of disbelief when apparent inconsistencies do pop up. It wasn’t as engaging as the Mando series for me but was happy enough to watch along.

Because Disney are powerful and are protecting their brand. It's awful that people aren't able to voice their true and honest opinions.
I'm not saying I'm 'right', it's just my opinion and that of others I've spoken to. I know I'm on my own on this thread and I'm ok with that. I don't feel I need to ask myself why and who the hate is coming from - I see the flaws in the series. I see the missed opportunities. I see the script for what it is (and isn't). It just so happens that despite all of that, I sat down and enjoyed watching them.
I just don't think this is about being a 'real fan' or a 'casual' - it's just a difference of opinion. That kind of terminology is just an attempt to belittle imo which is why I called it out. The inference is that if you like this you're not a real fan. Bollox, it's just people like different things.
I've been on the other side of this too. I abhor TLJ. I think it's an absolutely atrocious film but some people genuinely like it. For the life of me I can't figure out why but it takes all sorts. Those people are still real SW fans, we just really disagree on the quality of a film.

think your taking this too personally mate... I think most people are saying that the criticism for OB1 is coming from the fans not the casuals. The reason behind this is mainly due to continuity ... I believe that if that didnt exist a lot of them could deal with the poor writing and Reeva. the casuals wont be aware of the rules being broken. but when you rape the lore like they have and ADD that to the poor writing and at times awful directing then you will get heavily criticised and like I said this can only really come from the fans.
Casuals wont slaughter it cos one they have no real expectations that fail to be met. 2 they dont know or care about the continuity of it all.
So the majority of the critics are gonna be from the fans and they are.
On the whole comparing to what was successful (critic wise) to Mando, the fans loved it as did the casuals. I have yet (being genuine here) to see a single fan of the genre say that they didnt like Mando but (again from my experience) the fans that have reviewed OB1 think its very poor
Naby8, was just gonna say that. All it is, is a difference of opinion. And that’s ok.
The flaws in Kenobi, for me, outweigh the Pros.
But it certainly doesn’t make me a bigger or better fan than you or anyone else.
It’s just opinion.

Naby
Most Star Wars centered youtube channels have said the show was average.
I think casual fans enjoyed this show more than hardcore fans. That's not to say that if you like it, you're a casual fan, it's just something I believe, based on what I have seen, read and the people I have spoken to.
A good sign that performed below expectations is the clamour for a second season. As far as I can tell, nobody wants a season 2 of Obi Wan.

I’d like a second series
Full power OB1 being mentored by QGJ? Yes please. Would also like to see Reva finished - she knows about the kids, she should be dead.
Reva setting up a Knights of Ren’esk group and OB1 (with Ahsoka’s help ideally&hellip taking her down. Sign me up.
Weirdly, since it was the undoubted highlight of the series, I wouldn’t want to see another Vader v OB1 fight. That’s done but McGregor back as OB1 working covertly, yep - I’d buy that any day.
Have you been hearing the rumour of the filming scenes. Of the sequel trilogy from a different point of view, which we may see in Ahsoka?!!
Like some type of premonition she has of the future?
As for Kenobi. Look, I’m not interested in another 6 episodes of low budget stuff. Make it a feature length.
3 hrs split into 2 Eps. Or one long feature film.
I enjoyed the show but I don’t want a second series. Let him chill in his cave now.
Must admit, one of my main reasons for wanting a second series is OB1 being one of my favourite characters and McGregor doing (imo) a great job of playing him - I don’t really want that to conclude on a largely negative note. Would like the character to go out on a high if possible.
Hope we get a second series and it is just him sitting in a cave on his own, occasionally popping out to see Luke and have a beer. 8 hour long episodes of him doing what I believed he was doing. Also would like to see him age 30 years overnight.
Christ DJ, thought you would be bored with seeing washed up people wasting their time doing nowt.
You already watched the Ozil Saga. Then Auba Saga.
You want Kenobi to finish the Arsenal Trilogy!!?
Makes no sense… you still got Pepe

That might end up being better than season 1.
I didnt enjoy the show
But dont get me wrong I really liked some parts, and I think many have been duped by the old boxing trick, which is to finish strongly which it does, and I thin Naby perfectly emphasises this - people will only remember the last episode and scenes from the last episode, everything else was forgotten, Leia and Reva only pop back when you are reminded.

Jesus Simon, it’s your thread - check back if you can be bothered, I’ve been more positive than most people throughout the series.
There’s no boxing trick involved here, it’s more Occam’s razor - I’m simply more prepared to accept the flaws. The series had good elements and bad elements - the bad bothered me less than most people.
It’s mad that people are so unaccepting of someone enjoying a TV series. I don’t even think it’s great, just enjoyable! But no, my opinion must be clouded by a strong finish. So patronising.

I suspect casual fans enjoyed the series.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a bit dismissive tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From my peers, almost all of them are casual fans. They thought it was ok, nothing special and a bit boring in comparison to Mandalorian. They said it was a bit stupid but they also didnt have a clue about the continuity errors (eg they didnt know Leia and OB1 are not supposed to know each other.
Its poor Naby, the real fans agree as do the critics its a common theme and in now way is this thread not follow the norm, why else has it been removed from Rotten Tomatoes .......why has there never been any critic reviews allowed on IMDB?
the vast majority thought that OB1 was pi$$poor
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not my experience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then ask yourself why there are zero critic reviews allowed on IMDB for the show?

That’s done but McGregor back as OB1 working covertly, yep - I’d buy that any day.
posted on 11/7/22
Have you been hearing the rumour of the filming scenes.

Let him chill in his cave now.
posted on 11/7/22
Must admit, one of my main reasons for wanting a second series is OB1 being one of my favourite characters and McGregor doing (imo) a great job of playing him - I don’t really want that to conclude on a largely negative note.
