Tiddles I'm inclined to agree with you there but Disney have form using time travel in their finale movie as we saw with Endgame.

Also JJ already used time travel in his Star Trek movie. So put JJ in a Disney movie that desperately needs something that will undo all the mistakes of the previous movie and I'd say that time travel in Episode 9 is extremely likely.

I’d rather them just progress the story as it is then do time travel.

Whilst i enjoyed endgame i wasn’t a massive fan of the time travel tbh.

Just have palpatine having survived, coz he’s crazy powerful, and it’s taken him decades to fully recover and while he’s been recovering he’s had his puppet, Snoke, rebuilding his empire for him. Now snoke is gone the emperor must reveal himself.

That to me is a badass storyline and would also knit this trilogy together nicely.

I didn't like the time travel in Endgame either. It didn't particularly make sense to me, just seemed like they wanted it both ways.

Palpatine surviving and being alive all these years doesn't do it for me though. Too much time has passed.

Although him pulling the strings behind the scenes all this time would better explain how the First Order arose from the ashes of the Empire. Something that I didn't particularly understand with no Palpatine or Vader.

If it's time travel what will they do? Will they go back as far as the prequels era ? Would explain Hayden Christensen's involvement in this I assume.

In the Expanded Universe Palpatine was obsessed with creating a clone of himself. That would be interesting.

But to be honest I don't trust Disney with Star Wars, I hated the last Jedi and to me they are not respecting the franchise at all and are using it as a cash cow

My approach to Ep 8 was to avoid everything and anything, but this is a bad situ as nobody has a clue where the story is going.
I don’t mind time travel stories, but some do take the creative licence of that too far.
Now, if anyone watched Rebels season 4, they introduced Time Travel, with a twist.

Some out Hero was made to watch events of the past, but if he chose too, he could actually step into the event and change history, like he did when he saved Ashoka from Vader.. but then he had to rewatch the death of his mentor, and make the choice not to save him.
At the time, I thought that’s weird. TT in Star Wars!!
I don’t know how that works in the Movie. But I have to see if JJ gets clever about it.
I’m starting to wonder if going by what I saw in the Ep of Rebels, whether Rey gets to save Han Solo?!?

I’m not ruling anything out, cos I don’t have a clue where this story is going. But i’ll Be there opening night..

The scene in question....
now imagine Rey jumping to save Han.

If it was me from this train wreck of a situation...

Bring back Palpatine in a clone form that was created before real Palpatine died
Use Palpatine to create an evil force ghost of Hayden to manipulate and control Kylo

Urgh, can't even be bothered to continue I care so little now

Or just skip the whole lot - make it out that the last 2 have just been (force) dreams of a potential future and jump straight in with Thrawn and go from there, recast Luke and Co and bring in the new supporting cast like Mara and Karrde, lets use good source material

Then lets do a Maul prequel

And then if we really want some dark sheet lets do a Darth Bane series and some KOTOR stuff

It’s pretty much assumed at this point that the next trilogy is the old republic, i think it’s the one benioff and weiss are doing

Stringer yeah so Disney have already introduced time travel into their Star Wars-verse. It's already happened. So it shouldn't be a surprise if/when they use it for Ep 9.

I still think there's a fair chance Rey is a descendent of Palp and the laughter is in her head.

The symmetry of Kylo born on the light side and fighting to remain evil whilst Rey is born to the dark but fights to remain good - feels very SW to me.

There were fan theories at the time of TFA that Rey was a clone though. The idea that Palps/Snoke created her as a hybrid of certain force users (Palp? Vader? Luke?) to train when the time came. Would explain her power.

More likely I think is that we'll end up with a very dull plot line. After the last film I accepted that these films are not for me, they're for a new generation of SW fans. Kids essentially, so whilst the plot might contain twists I sincerely doubt it'll be in any way over complicated. It's why I wouldn't rule out time travel - well understood concept that basically shortcuts difficult plots to make them easier.

I know exactly what you're saying. I don't care much either about this film after the atrocity that was Last Jedi. But I just came across this time travel theory and thought I'd share as I'd say that's what they're going with to try and get them out of trouble. Seems obvious to me now.

I’ve also stumbled upon the time travel / loop rumours.

One even suggested that Rey is actually Shmi - could you imagine?

The backlash would be huge.

I heard Rey was Jar Jar Binks

Yeah the time travel theory has a lot of legs Superb:

Been used in SW canon recently
JJ Abrams always uses it in pretty much everything he makes
Palpatine laugh
Death Star images
Rey using Luke's lightsabre that was destroyed in TLJ
And Ruin Johnson killing off almost every character so how do they even take this story forward? They have to go back..

Obers yeah there are many signs pointing towards time travel. The rumours of both Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid filming for Episode 9 as well.

Wonder if they might go as far as CGI de-aging Mark Hamill as well for a scene or two in this movie ? Maybe getting a bit ahead of myself.

I’m in the minority of having enjoyed both TFA and TLJ, but if they do go the time travel route in episode 9, then I’m out.

It’s lazy, it’s not that interesting, and for me it doesn’t belong in Star Wars.

Doesn't that almost perfectly sum up this trilogy though .

I don't think it's been all bad from Disney. I enjoyed Rogue One and Solo as well for that matter even if it had it's faults.

I have high hopes for Mandalorian as well. But I bet Disney now wished they'd never continued the story directly after ROTJ. Or at least had an actual plan of how the story would pan out instead of this gung-ho BS they've done.

I have zero excitement for this movie and certainly won't be parting with any money to watch it. But I do have a morbid fascination to see how they attempt to undo all the mistakes and woeful script from TLJ. A movie I hated so much there just aren't words for it.

There's another rumour I saw that Rey is somehow going to force move the Death Star in Episode 9 which if true would be beyond laughable.

Just out of curiosity, why would it be beyond laughable?
