typical Chelsea causing trouble

posted on 31/3/16

I went to that game with my dad, I was 12 and we stayed with my Uncle in Bristol after.

I was seated in the main Cardiff grandstand with my dad. There were so many Chelsea there they had to relocate Cardiff season ticket holders.

A fellow blue asked my 50 year old if he could borrow his seat when we were 3-0 down. The seats only stopped flying after we got the equaliser. Carnage in the car park. Chelsea tried to run the main Cardiff end when we got back to 3-2. Great day out for a 12 year old

I was there that day JFDI, it was probably my 5th or 6th visit to Ninian Park with Chelsea. You always had to have your wits about you coming out of the station there in a small group!

The worst I remember was around 77/78 when we won 1-3 and The Cat pulled off one of the best saves I've ever seen.

After the game, the park outside was like a scene from Waterloo (not the station)!!

Thankfully scenes like that are a rarity at football nowadays - just as well at my age

'The best ever to come to Cardiff' chelsea aggro

I've only ever been to Cardiff to watch us in cup finals and community shield.

I was warned in advance to stay out of the "Prince of Wales" pub.

It was very typical back in the day, I have no qualms about it and we were certainly not alone in this respect. In fact I wouldn't have missed it for the world but I am pleased things have moved on since then.

The cup games there were mega, so many bars, the station and the ground, all within a stones throw of each other.

It was mad in those days; we could get 15,000 at home one week and have almost half that the next week away at places like York or Blackpool!

Tell me about it, my last visit was a couple of years ago when they went down and we went by car, we ended up parking literally outside our entrance which was nice, you fell out the car and into the ground.

What i enjoyed about those games at the Millennium were they would play a nice extended version of the Kalinka when we won.

I know it gets a mixed reaction on here but i always enjoyed when it was played and the majority of the fans always joined in.

Never went to that game but I do remember it well, we scored 3 goals in the last 8 minutes or so to draw 3-3. I heard that it was a major turn-out from the away fans in all parts of the ground.

However in terms of carnage the Cardiff game that springs to mind as the worst, was the 1977 one when they were turning over everybody and there was a 500 a side in the park opposite in the dark after the game. That was also serious carnage.

Have a look Brum I think the League Cup ones you're on about were the following season. I can't remember those personally, but I'm sure I would have been at the home leg.

It would have been the 1980 LC game then 69!
