Clearly the song can't solely and explicitly refer to Hillsborough, the line is "ALWAYS the victim" always is by nature plural.

Although I also wondered about Everton fans singing it. Perhaps they consider themselves different to Liverpool fans in ways beyond simple support of different clubs?

It was created after the Hillsborough and the word always references the Heysel disaster...

If you don't understand just ask rather than your original smug wum comment on such a serious matter IMO

My original comments were neither smug nor wumming, although I'll admit I couldn't resist the jibe at the end.

My point remains, that when the vast majority of opposition fans sing this song they are not referencing Hillsborough, just mocking what is seen by many as a Liverpudlian character trait.

Now maybe you are correct in that it was initially sung about Hillsborough, but we all know that the meaning of things, be they words, phrases or songs can change over time. I'm not saying you should ignore the song if you find it offensive, but just don't automatically assume that those singing it are mocking the dead.

Why would Neverton fans sing it if it was 'just mocking what is seen by many as a Liverpudlian character trait.'

Surely that would suggest they were taking the p!ss out of themselves if that was the case.

No idea, but I did say "majority of opposition fans".

Do Everton fans thing of themselves as of a better social class to those of Liverpool perhaps?

Or perhaps, you are just wrong?

No, the word "always" means the same outcome from more than one incident, I'm certain of it.

Anyway, I do realise it is an emotive subject, so I'll leave it, but in all honesty I don't think everyone or even most who sing the song are deliberately mocking Hillsborough.

I have alkready answered this....

and if you right and they are not referencing this yet know the history of the song is this not the same thing???? if they don't know the history of this song then they must be ignorant mindless sheep that just follow the crowd but have no idea what they are singing about....

Which one are you? As I can only assume from your defence of this behaviour that you have participated at some point!

I refer you to my previous comment.

And yes I know the history, it's one of the reasons I'd never buy The Sun.
