This is the weakest league since pre Roman by a mile
it's awful
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess it all depends on how you judge the strength of the league. Some judge it by how good the best teams are, some judge it by the competitiveness.
I go for the former, so I'd agree in saying it's awful, as it was last season too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would you assess the quality of the league based solely on the quality of a small proportion of its teams?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because that's how I choose to assess it. Judging it from top to bottom doesn't work for me, especially if you've got team(s) well adrift at the bottom.
If the top team gets 90 pts and the bottom team gets 15 pts, is that a strong or weak league?

I think this "does it show that the big teams have flopped" as a bit of an injustice to teams like Leicester and Spurs.
Out of curiosity, what makes a big team??
There is plenty of money about in the pl now which means teams don't have to sell their best players now and they have money to spend on better foreigners.
The gap has definitely closed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It has closed Dunc, and I think might continue to.
I suppose by 'big teams' people are referring to those clubs we've seen repeatedly in and around the top four for the last fifteen years or so.
The term will likely become less relevant (given this interpretation of it, at least) if the playing field continues to level.

To me, that says nothing.
I'd look at the quality and effectiveness of the football played by the teams from top to bottom.
Basically doing well makes you a big club, Leicester would become known as a big team if they kept high league finishes up for the next few seasons, how many and what position is a bit harder to judge.
What makes a big club?

Fans in Essex obviously.
