I'm sorry if you are having your agent making demands in wages as much as he is getting, then you well should back it up on the pitch or get rightly hammered. If you want to be treated like a kid, don't expect to earn like the finished article.

Just me who doesn't get the Dier love in?
He was part of an awful midfield, his distribution was slow and predictable and the only game he had work to do he is at fault for the Iceland second.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am with you to an extent. He did his job well - but his job was redundant for pretty much all of the competition.
Because of the way our opponents played he was the player with the time, space and possession. Yet bar one ball that nearly found Sturridge against Slovakia, his passing was safe. Most of his forward passes forced the recipient to come backwards, very few progressive passes from him. When he did try something more he failed. His shooting from open play was pretty dreadful as well.
A lot of the time he was as deep as the CBS when we were on possession, with 30 yards of empty space in front of him.
Not really his fault, as I said, he did the job he is used to doing. Just turned into a pretty pointless role as it turned out

The very best manager for England would be Jose Mourinho. Wonder if he'd do both jobs.
-------------------------------
Would you want him to?
Don't forget Dier also scored 25% of our goals!
I would like answers to these questions before I put too much of the blame on Sterling.
Why was Kane taking corners & free kicks?
Why did Sturridge spend a lot of his time going back into MF to pick up the ball?
Why when Lallana got into good attacking positions was there rarely another player he could pass to?
Why when Clyne or Walker got into crossing positions was there rarely a player in the box to receive a cross?
What exactly was Rooney's Job?
Why did every player take at least 1 extra touch instead of passing? This one point is why 95% of England's attacks broke down. I can answer this one though. They did it because they were all allowing their egos to shine through. Trying to show the England fans 'why they belong in the team'.

If it didn't affect his United role I would simply because I live in England and have a kind of affinity to England having been here for 20+ years. I'd love your team to be good be chase it makes the buzz of the nation better.
"What exactly was Rooney's Job?"
This!
I said it all tournament and got a lot of sh-t for it. We played a 3 man midfield, Dier to screen the defence and move the ball onto more offensive players and Alli to be a #10 an goal threat (which TBF he did a poor job of). That left Rooney in the b2b role, a role that requires energy, forward movement and a wide range of passing. What we got was a player strolling around the pitch either making 2 yard passes to the player next to him or his favourite cross field ball to the right, most of which went out for a throw. He rarely moved the ball forward or offered much variety, he was slow in his play and as a result there was never any momentum in our play. Seeing Iceland's second goal the quick passing and movement outside the box was really nice, something we never did all tournament.
Of course it's not all Rooney's fault, there were worse players than him for us but he just didn't do anywhere near enough in the role he was given.
sᴉɥƃuǝlפ
The point was we're dog sh-t and 1 goal constitutes to 25% of our goal tally which is rather depressing.
Rooney had one trick. I said it after Russia and he did it every sinnnnnnngle time.
Get the ball from Dier. Pass it thirty yards to walker.
Rinse, repeat etc.
It was so obvious it was laughable. He needs to retire or be retired from the England. I can almost guarantee you guys would be better off once he goes.
He's a bit like Zoolander who can only turn right. I'm waiting for the day Rooney pings a cross field ball to the left.

It's interesting how golden boy Alli is completely immune to criticism. Although, I feel he was misused by Hodgson. The thing is, Alli's not a very good footballer, but he can score goals. Pochettino recognised this, so moved him higher up the pitch.
Sterling wasn't great, but there were many others who were worse than him. Rooney and Kane for starters.

Apart from the Iceland game where everyone was sh-t I thought Dier did well, any threat we did receive came more from out wide, centrally we were very much in control, the problem was creating and finishing through the middle. Dier does the boring stuff but does it without fuss and well.
The thing with Dier though is that he is quite limited in his role so he will never create from deep like Carrick and that means more must be done from the other CMs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think we needed a Dier in the first 3 games, that's the thing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
don't agree that back 5 needs protection...it's unfortunate but instead of maybe 2/3 players having stinkers virtually the whole squad had a stinker at the same time.
kane just looked out on his feet....mentally and physically.
same posivblly with alli in mentioned on DJ's thread I think it was in the Russia game alli looked stiff and like he was struggling for movement.
It does when you operate 2 full backs who love to bomb forward. If you want to operate a midfield pair then you need 2 mobile players with plenty of energy, the only English player who did that to a good level all season was Drinkwater while the only other 2 alternatives are Wilshere and Henderson who both had poor/injured seasons.

Been saying this for years. That's all it takes for commentators to think he's still got it. A crossfield ball out to the wing that spends about 25 mins in the air. It's sad that the commentators, pundits, media etc don't call out players more for their performances. Either that or they're just really easily fooled.
Sorry to say but that also reminds me of Scholes when he returned from retirement

Yes he was the brightest spark at the World Cup when he was playing regular football at Liverpool. Then he forced a move to city in a deal worth £49m because he thought he was the muts nuts and worth £180,000 a week.
Now I don't blame him for making the move because anyone would but he had to knuckle down and let his football do the talking and he hasn't. He's not played regular football and has regressed as a player.
He should have stayed where he was and carried on playing and progressing like he was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
These are my thoughts on Sterling too
He should in no way be singled out regarding England though. The only players that should be free from stick are Lallana, Walker, Rashford and the players who didn't play.
