Do we need Jordan Rhodes

His record in the second tier speaks for itself albeit a good percentage of those would be penalties.

Would definitely take him.

I think Rhodes offers more than you give him credit for burga. Remember seeing him play against Wolves for a poor Blackburn team at Ewood Park and he was their sole threat and caused lots of problems. His movement and shooting, much of it from outside the box, made him look well above average in the Championship to me.

We may well be able to find better, but he is more than just a poacher at this level.

True but like the first person a good 40 % to 50% were penalty but any strikers looks good agaonst our defence tbh.

12m,

I'd prefer Martin.

Rhodes is proven at Champo level and would love him at Wolves, Martin would also be a good option, but would prefer Bamford out of the three.

We do need someone up top though as we don't know how good Dicko will be after being out for a full year. Ennis and Eno offer something but are both very raw. That just leaves Dadi who has looked good so far and Mason who blows hot and cold.
Come on Fosun, splash the cash and get one of Bamford, Martin or Rhodes!

I don't think he's worth £12m, but it may take that to get him away from Boro. Should've been in form him when he was at Udders.

Whats Charlie Austin doing these days? Not seen him in a S'oton shirts for ages.

Jackson and John signed on season long loans.

Simple answer is no.

If he can't get into newly promoted Middlesbro's starting line up, why should we "splash the cash" to bring him to us. After all our intentions are to get promoted asap. I'd rather spend money when we get promoted.

Not sure I understand wolfie's point (!), lets not spend cash on someone that can help us get promoted, lets spend the cash when we are promoted

I think Martin is a better player then Rhodes but I personally think Rhodes fits the bill for what we need more than Martin. I think a prolific goalscorer is more what we need than someone who is more like a second Dicko, albeit very good.

Rhodes is not in the Boro team now because he may not be good enough for the Premier League. But he averages more than a goal every two games in the Championship and with Bodvarsson and hopefully Dicko to help him, he could keep that average up with us.

martin has a history of feast or famine, rhodes a better bet

Not sure I understand this modern need for strikers to do far more than score goals.

Not saying they should just hang out in the box but some managers now just pick strikers for their work rate etc rather than what they should be paid to do.

This guy is clinical and can produce goals from nothing and given the service would net 20-25 goals this season, our three current strikers may get 35-40 between them if we are lucky.

12 mill is a little steep though and Austin if available wouldn't be a bad idea and Martin also would be a decent move and if we want to aim for a solid bench guy instead then Nugent would be excellent.

Romain Saiss perhaps the next one in, CB and Defensive mid, rumoured a few weeks ago and now coming up again.

Martin Bamford Rhodes!

We've just signed 3 defenders in Cameron Borthwick Jackson so 3 strikers would round things off nicely.

Villa looking at signing Nakhi Wells. Would he be a decent option if Martin Bamford Rhodes is not an option?

We're not spending cash right now DJ and rightly so and 4 of or new signings are loan players. Other clubs know we have cash to spend and will over value players like Rhodes, hoping we'll fall for it. Maybe you want to do what Cyp is suggesting and just blow 20m or so on players who may or may not get us up.

Spend wisely like we've been doing. After all we are 3rd in the table and earned a well deserved victory on Saturday without having to rely on most our new signings. Rotating our squad is a wise move, that's the idea of having a squad of 22/23 players. Resting players during a tough campaign will reap benefits in the end.

Lot of money but if he came in and scored 20 goals it would look very cheap. There is a question mark about whether he is good enough for Boro now they are in the Premier League, but his Championship record over the last 4 seasons is 91 goals from 179 games
====================

So are you saying spend 12m on a player who may score goals and get us up? Then what do we do? You say yourself that, quote "There is a question mark about whether he is good enough for Boro now that they are in the Premier League."

You're kinda making my point on why we should not "splash the cash"

posted on 22/8/16

As Wolfie has long advocated getting players "off the wage bill", to quote him, he's unlikely to endorse any "splashing the cash", even though its not his money.

Buying Rhodes, to get us up, would be money well spent, given his phenomenal goals to games record. He can be sold on if/when we get promotion. There will be other Championship clubs looking for his kind of flair.

Precisely, Get him in on a 1 year deal with an option on a second and move him on if we manage to gain promotion. Albion will probably be looking for a couple of good Champo strikers next season

I think Rhodes if available should be a no brainer a proper goal poacher

Just buy everyone, then they can't score against us

Never heard of own goals, Halfy.
