Biggest squad ever...

Think it will be our attack unravelling if anything does happen and we become a bit toothless/lost for ideas.

Looks far more promising than usual though.

Every single season we get a shiiteload of injuries and our season falls apart.

This coupled with Wenger as manager will be another season of "what ifs"...

Squad depth is insane. Our 2nd string side would finish in the top 6 at least!

That said, we already have a ridiculous amount of injuries and the season has barely began. We need our exceptional talents staying fit, which should be easier for Wenger with the quality of replacements he has available to rotate efficiently. An injury to Ozil/Koz/Sanchez and suddenly we won't be so positive.

For me, this is by far the strongest XI and squad that we have had since 2006, maybe even 2004. Of course the quality of our rivals XI is also exceptional.

Still missing that world class striker which is very frustrating.

The phrase that comes to mind reading this is "Quality, not quantity." I think that may apply to other teams more than us though, particularly at CF.

I believe that how Perez plays will make or break our season. Hopefully with the arrival of Mustafi and Holding we should be more secure at the back.

Where we have really failed in the last few seasons has been our lack of a clinical finisher and someone who could create and convert a chance from nothing. If Perez can fulfill that role and emulate what Vardy did last season then we should be in contention. If he turns out to be a flop then we will struggle to make top 4 this season.

we may have the quanity but do we have the quality? im not sure particually up fromt

The other thing with operating with a squad this size is we will have to start getting rid of players. Next summer will almost certainly spell the end of a few players Arsenal careers - but let's leave that til next year...
------
Wenger is going all out for this season and not looking to the future for once! Most of our rivals can't name full 25 man squad because of a lack of homegrown players and their u21's are not as established as ours. Only United can match our depth, hopefully we get some luck with injuries and it works in our favour. Still question marks over Perez and we will need one of Theo/Ox/Iwobi to step up if we are gonna win the league.

As long as ozil stays fit we can cover. And yeah allot depends on Perez impact

We should have trimmed the fat. Even factoring injuries, it's a bloated squad. The young players that didn't get loaned out is inexplicable. Debuchy should have gone. Even in Chambers absence, Mustafi, Holding and the returning Jenkinson can cover Bellerin. We'll just be shelling out about 4m pounds through the year on his wages to rot in the facking reserves. If Mert and Gabriel didn't get injured, I'd have sold one of them too.

Arsenal only have quality and depth in one area of the pitch, Attacking Midfield.

The idea that AFC 2nd XI would finish 6th is laughable.

Your 1st XI have got a job on their hands achieving that this season.

Our back up to Ozil is Cazorla who's a starter in CM. We have more depth in every other position

We have more depth at central midfield than attacking midfield. We now have pretty good depth at centre back too, injuries accounted for. Strange thing to suggest that the first XI may have difficulty finishing in the top 6.

Always moaning, moan moan moan

The season before last you repeatedly called Wenger Insane for only having 3 centerbacks. This season we have 5 (2 injured) and you want him to sell one more.

Which young players should have been loaned out?

Squad is Bloated what a joke

If we can keep them fit, (a big IF) this team aren't much weaker than our first 11, and they can compete for top 6:

--------------------------Ospina---------------------
Debuchy---Mertesacker---Gabriel----Gibbs

--------------------Coq----Elneny-------------------

Walcott--------------Cazorla-------_Welbeck-

Loaning out Debuchy would have been crazy. We wouldn't gain £4m a year as no team who wanted him could cover his wages, and Jenkinson (who struggled for form and lost his place at WHU last season anyway) won't be ready to play for another month or so, which would have left us with 1 CB, our only fit back up in central defence, as cover for RB. Not worth the penny penching there.

I complained about having 2 CB (not even 3) and just 6 senior defenders in the squad for 4 positions. That's very different from the current scenario where we have 5 CB's and 10 senior defenders which most teams would consider excessive.

And if you can't see which youngsters could have been loaned out, I can't be bothered to educate your ignorant asss. Perhaps, look through the squad list.

I would disagree. The guy doesn't even make our matchday squad anymore and considering how badly he deteriorated with a long spell on the bench (he was facking horrid when he played since his comeback), he is of no value to the squad. This is a guy who in an interview last season, basically admitted he packed it in when Bellerin displaced him from the team.

I think they tried to get rid of him tbf

It was probably a case of Chambers or Debuchy.
Chambers barely playing would arguably be far worse than Debuchy picking up wages for bench warming.
At least there is half a chance of Chambers having a future beyond this season.

You are 5th, just 3 points above 7th.

But you carry on believing your second XI would force finish in the top 6.

Strange indeed.

posted on 12/3/17

Sorry, you were talking about the "first XI" not the "second XI". 3 points above 7th but with 2 games in hand, slightly distorting the true situation.
