Show me one post to suggest this prior to Guardiola joining us.

Suggest what?

Are you stupid?
You don't even remember your own arguments?

I have. Still the best coach in the world but some of his lineups make me laugh. You can be as paranoid as you like and think it's a new thing, though. Pep's never, ever, been criticised before moving to City, of course.

SAF did the same on occasion.

Carrick at centreback; Rafael, Rio and O'Sheabio in centre midfield (thankfully not at the same time); O'Sheabio wide right; Obertan as a lone striker

You want me to find you a post to suggest perceptions haven't changed or that I've always taken the piiiiiss out of Pep's bizarre lineups in defence?

You need to be more clear. Either way I'm hardly going to go trawling through the internet to satify your need for proof that this criticism is only because Pep's joined City.

I'm sure melts can assure you of my views of Pep's defensive facking about. It's something we've discussed at length for years.

You do or don't, melts? Can't remember if it was him or Abidal. Probably both lined up in it, he had some crazy lineups in 2012.

Yeah having a midfield as good as they did helped, and teams refusing to attack/being unable to due to being penned.

Can't see City being able to do the same either as I don't think the midfield is anywhere near as good.

I remember watching this game with a 3-4-3. Fantastic performance. Very much from the old Ajax teachings. Was hoping we'd have done something like that when LVG took over. Sadly not...

Back 3 of Masch, Busquets and Abidal.

I watched another game soon after with pretty much the same layout, I think Adriano did line up then in Abidal's position on the left of defence. Dani Alves played in the RCM position of the midfield diamond.

Barf, yeah they had player playing all over the shop at Barca that year. I'm sure there was a game where they didn't field one single defender that season.

Like playing a computer game.

Looking at the starting lineup, you'd think he'd completely lost his marbles.

The man is a unique talent.

Yeah I remember Abidal playing. It was him trying to work out how to get Fabregas in there and also try to break down deeper defences.

I'm pretty sure Guardiola played in a very similar system under Cruyff.

He is crazy defensively. I would actually argue at the same time he's predominately a defensive coach even with that craziness.

And I'd highly recommend Pep Confidential as a read, think the follow up is coming out soon.

Why would you have to trawl through the internet for your own posts?

I'll check it out, melts.

You'd argue he's a defensive coach? In what way?

posted on 5/9/16

Because Pep was appointed City manager ages ago so I'd have to go through all my posts dating back months to find any.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In that the methods that he trains into players is all about coverage of space and giving them the platform. He's very rigid when it comes to those principles and what they should be doing to minimise opportunities for the opposition (both by strangling the space but by also retaining the ball). It's in the final third that he then effectively leaves them to their own devices.

I don't mean that he's defensively minded by saying that just to be clear, more that his ideas and principles start from a defensive point of view.

And just to reclarify that last paragraph as I realise that sounds entirely contradictory!

He doesn't want his team to play in a defensive style was what I meant.

Pep played Yaya at CB in the CL final. Is any more evidence needed?

I'm guessing that you haven't the nous to start searching before the date Pep agreed to join us... I will also take it as you don't have anything to back up your claims.

posted on 5/9/16

Melts, ah ok yeah I agree with that.

posted on 5/9/16

No I'm just not going to waste my time searching through my posts to find one taking the piiiiiss out of Guardiola's lineups to appease some no mark on the internet. Believe whatever you like. But I can assure you I've been taking the piiiiiss out of it for years.

posted on 5/9/16

Yet you're still answering to a no-mark.

We all do. Doesn't mean we're gonna go searching through months of history to find posts for them. Especially when it's hardly an view that's that unbelievable.
