Sticking to the England team...

Definitely Ashley Cole, possibly the best full back in the world but nobody likes him (not even his wife) so he won't be appreciated until he retires.

All players have peaks and troughs in their career so on that basis yes I'd definitely include Gerrard in there. At times he has produced magical football. Only time will tell if he still can.

I think Rio has been truly world class in his day though more for club than country.

Rooney has shown it in flashes and still has time to do something substantial on a world stage.

Plenty of our young players have the potential to be considered true greats but as we've always seen with England, potential counts for nought unless you achieve something.
