For all the friendlies, training camps and bonding sessions it doesn't seem to make much difference to the old days when Internation duty was a special thing.

Good or bad the match meant something and it didn't matter that you didn't play together regularly because the passion of playing for your country combined with your abilities as a professional meant you could still perform most the time.

My point was that we play too many internationals. Less is more.

"Lets face it - most people are fed-up of the internationals"

"Most people"?! Let's face it - you just pulled this intriguing nugget of information out of your 4rse, didn't you...

We should switch it to League teams, where each league will field a team of their registered players.

La Lega will pretty much be the Spanish team with the addition of Ronaldo instead of Silva and Pepe.

PL team would be awsome

Hart/Reina

Sagna
Kompany
Vidic
Baines (better than Evra or Cole)

Nani
Essien
Modric
Silva/Bale

Rooney
Aguero/Torres(of old)

Maybe VAn Persie too if he wasn't injured

firstly Reina has to be the most overated keeper in the league.

Cech or Hart for number one.

Baines is not better than Ashley Cole, although Baines he is very good. BAE is better than Baines.

Essien? not at the moment.

Bale isnt in the same class as David Silva.

Drogba of old over Torres of old.

We should form a World team and then wait to find another inhabited planet to play against

Why play all these pre season friendlies and get your players injured BEFORE the blooming season starts?
Mind you,we could play the Arsenal Ladies....but they might beat us!!

i would rather abolish the whole nations world cup and instead replace it with an associations world cup, where players representing the Premier League play off against La Liga, and Serie A.

This would mean that the country unites behind its association, but are not limited to the fact that England players (specifically) are by and large a load of dross.

It would also make players think twice about leaving their associations, maybe they are patriotic and wouldnt want to represent other countries associations etc.

Obviously some countries would still have bags of homegrown talent to use (South American countries spring to mind).

I think this would be more exciting than the current system - although it is subject to rich oligarchs coming in and skewing the whole thing with thier petro-dollars, but would the worlds best players really want to all go to a Qatari league in order to help that association.....

___________

That's a preposterous idea. It would become utterly dominated by England and Spain.

Actually the Germans would probably still win most the time.

International football should be at amateur level, leave the professionals to concentrate on club football after all it is the clubs that pay their wages.

"We should switch it to League teams"

This used to happen in this country up until the 70's I think; the English League would play as a team agaist ,say, the League of Scotland (who had good Scottish players back then, so it would not be the massacre it would be today!)

"it is the clubs that pay their wages"

And the size of that wage may be greatly affected by a player's International status.
Mark Hately got a multi-million pound transfer to Milan on the basisi of playing in an England B International.
