Southend V Posh

Hi ya Thorney, long time no post. Looking forward to your visit Saturday and I think it will be an entertaining game. I have no idea what Southend side will turn up, but if the winning team from Tuesday starts it be an open game. How many do you think will make the journey for you?

Hiya too, Roots.

Travelling Posh fans? Difficult to say - 750? More, if we hadn't been drawing so many games.

We lost to Oxford away, so your win against them at home should stand you in good stead.

I'm predicting 1-1 - my predictions tend to be wrong, so it shouldn't be yet another 1-1 draw for us.

If you're coming down, have a safe journey. Roots Hall is looking a bit ancient and in need of some TLC these days so be careful where you sit in the North Stand. We're reckoning about 6-7k gate so it should be noisy enough. The weather is predicting persistent rain so a quick pitch is on the cards.

What s your excuse for not going this week TP ??
You dont seem to go as much as you used to.
Cant say a blame you , London rd always seems depressing nowadays.
Waiting to see what names may crop up in recent investigations.

Thorney...just be grateful we took Jack Payne off them, the lad would have torn you a new one. Cheers Southend

How you playing this season Thorney? Our own success has meant I've not paid much attention to the lower leagues, certainly not as much as I used to

I'm guessing that you are a Terrier if you now have Jack in your team. Losing him and Daniel Bentley to Brentford hasn't helped the cause this season, but both were worthy of Championship football so they went with our best wishes. Jack certainly knows how to get the crowd out of their seats when he runs at defenders and better still, when he scores..

I am lad

I think he's surprised everyone with how quick he has been able to come in and just hit the ground running. Obviously at the size of him, I think most Town fans probably initially took one look at him and thought "what have we done?", but he's direct, fast footed, good vision, and obviously scoring the winner up at St James Park helped endear him to us all.

I know from reading your club forum when we signed him, a few were p-ssed off he'd left you for "a team like Huddersfield", but he's made a good move, and wherever we end up, we'll do our bit in his development (like we have Rhodes, Pilkington, Coady, etc) and if there's a sell on/profit fee in the deal you won't end up doing too badly I wouldn't have thought.

Some fond memories of away days at Roots Hall so I wish you the best for this season and beyond

Cheers mate. There are some seriously cynical, disjointed individuals on our board so don't take that sort of quote to heart. Jack needed a club like yours where he stood a chance of regular 1st team starts rather than warming his bum on the bench at a Prem club. The vast majority of us wanted him to be successful and you are just the sort of club to help him do that. The better he plays, the more we will eventually get in sell-on rights!!

Definitely mate, that's how it should be, money in our game being spread out properly, it's the lifeblood of clubs like ours. Too many youngsters get plucked by clubs from the greedy league then fail to develop how they could and get tossed out on their ear, and the club that put the time in on these lads early get shortchanged massively.

One thing I did notice from your forum was you seem to be blooding some good youngsters down there in Essex from the fans' opinions. Hopefully it will go a long way to helping you push on

Sorry for hijacking your thread Thorney

Both Jack and Daniel were from the Academy, and yes there some more great youngsters coming through. Sadly sometimes they don't even make the 1st eleven before the vultures land. Anyway enough, as you say. As we have just signed another 35 yr old forward in the shape of Marc Antoine Fortune the Posh defence can expect to be run ragged! Shame Nile Ranger isn't fit, if we were losing at football we might come out on top in a fight. (Only joking).

Thanks for your comments Roots, and no problem, Champers, with "hijacking" my thread - a better class of hijack than TF's!

You must be delighted, Champers, with your team's form and results this season. If only we hadn't got so cruelly relegated at Crystal Palace ...

As for tomorrow's Southend V Posh, the forecast persistent rain should be to your advantage, Roots - our players tend to slip up a lot even on damp surfaces - well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

As well as draw specialists, we're plentiful shot specialists, so here's hoping more of them are not just on target (another speciality) but actually hit the back of the net.

UTP!

Game on then Thorney. I'll pop back on here after the game unless you give us a stuffing. cheers mate.

Sounded like a close hard-fought draw, with Posh taking the first half and Southend the second half, until Maddison popped up with the equaliser - good on him!

Tottenham loanee goalkeeper, McGee, saved another penalty - good on him too!

Paul Taylor's working hard, but over-complicating things and not feeding Nicols. Have we got somebody we can start instead of him, against Bury next Saturday?

We missed the penalty because it was incredibly weakly hit. That said, I think a win for us would have been rough justice for you guys. So 1-1 was probably a fair result. I have to say that your finishing skills wouldn't look out of place in Sunday league football, it was dire, but then ours were much better. That's a shame because you are a skillful team on the build up to goal. I would have your no 10 Taylor in our side tomorrow, class player. Had we introduced Simon Cox and Fortune to our forward line earlier the result may have been a lot different because they caused your back line all sorts of problems. but there you go. So, until we come to the ABAX stadium, good luck.

Thank you for your comment, Roots, and the SKY link.

I agree that our finishing is poor. Unfortunately, Taylor's is non-existent - he is skilful, though. Maddison is our only finisher at present.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out for both of our clubs before the return game at London Road (so much nicer sounding than the ABAX).

Good to luck to you, too - both our sides will need some, if we are to get in the promotion places.

Slipping silently into another season of mid-table oblivion.Too many draws.

There's still plenty of time left for us to turn draws into wins, TF.
