, the extra £1-2m a year they get paid above League 2 players should justify a bit of time spent after training each day practicising them.
==============================

Youre severely overrating how much leage 1 players get paid.

Id be suprised if many of them were on 40k a year.

StrettyEnd I think his point is that, given our wage structure, the majority of our players will earn in the region of 1-2 million a season.

But thanks for the input...

Totally agree B&WH, I felt sick after the Everton result. Glad I wasn't there for once. Sickening and disgraceful to miss 2 penalties.

Strangely there have been so many missed pens this season already, keepers seem to have the psychological edge currently.

Penalties have been shocking all over. Brazil missed 4 out of 4 in the Copa.

Still really unlucky for Rovers.

I don't think with penalties it's a case of practice really.

I don't like the way in which penalties are taken now.

In my opinion (granted - i'm probably not in the position to give tips to Premiership footballers), the best way to take a penalty is to put your foot through the ball and try to smash the back of the net.

Agree with 123 above. I liked how Shearer and to a lesser extent Sutton used to take penalties. Even Benni Mac. No need to fool the keeper if hitting it sweet.

Yeah definitely. Shearer is the best penalty taker I've ever seen so I'm pretty surprised more of the modern players haven't tried to copy his action. Blast 9 out of 10 into the top left corner and side-foot 1 out of 10 into the bottom right just to keep goalkeepers honest and their starting position in the middle. Unsavable basically even if they cheat and go early (which they all do).

I'd assume its a lack of confidence. Blasting the ball rather than placing it obviously reduces accuracy and aiming for the top corner means it could go wide or over. But thats what the practice is for, practice anything constantly and no matter how hard it started out, it eventually becomes easy. Jonny Wilkinson is a testament to that.

A lack of practice is either laziness or not taking it seriously. A club like Rovers will only get about 2/3 penalties a season on average and 90% of the time the 1st choice penalty taker (Dunn) will take them. So Hoilett and Formica probably have just never practised penalties with enough dedication because of how rarely they'll take them. Like I said if you're getting paid that much though then there should be no laziness or cutting corners on anything, even if you think it'll rarely ever be needed.

Yeah cheers Reebok bricks. You can spot the truly pointless ones a mile off. My rule these days is only take on ones who have a reason for being here (e.g. rivals - you and the Dingles, just played them, some transfer/management bust up between the 2 clubs) or if their WUM is quite an intelligent/well thought out one.

Some Man_Ure delinquent turning up to say "Your players are League 1, teehehe" may as well be wearing a dunce hat. You'll have to try harder than that Stretty.

Apologies if you weren't calling our players League 1, just looked a lot like you were.

Was refering to orient. League 1 was a typo, meant two.

Meant their players were on about 30-40k a year.

Stretty, are you p!mp!ng out your boyfriend again?

I dont know what all this hype about penalties is!You line the ball up on the spot and smash it in high or low and any decent forward worth his salt can do this 99 times out of a hundred. If you have a team of big earners who are glad the training is over to zoom away in their limos then yes penalties are not so important.Any decent manager/trainer will have a chosen kicker and a reserve for injuries and cards etc.We are a lucky we have Keano and im sure he puts the lads through their paces.I will be at Fulham on Saturday and im keeping to what I said 5 games, cos Arsenal and city are coming up!

I wrote an article on bolton fans saying bolton fans claiming gary cahill was the new Jay jay okocha and they all took it as me having a pop at bolton and acted as if I completely ran their club into the ground, I did no such thing. Just harmless fun.

We are lucky we have Keano? You mean Keano is lucky to have his job? All his Christmases have come at once.

You may believe we are lucky to have him, but the rest of us have our eyes wide open and most are shaking their heads in utter dismay at the mess he and the owners are currently making of everything.
