You'll miss him when he's gone. None of our players can match him in terms of decision making in the final third and that's such a key skill. He is so good at choosing the moment to release the incisive pass as opposed to just keeping the ball with a simple pass. Off the top of my head I can remember 2 cases where his brilliant passes today led to potentially clear goal scoring opportunities and I'm sure there were more.

I would like it if he worked harder when he loses the ball but some fans seem to want him to be running around like a headless chicken constantly. Also even though he's not good at pressing he still shuffles sufficiently well to keep the gaps between him and our other midfielders small enough to set himself up to intercept the ball.

Yes he wasn't that involved today but what's he meant to do if our other players can't string 2 passes together? His purpose is in the final third and it's the other players role to get the ball to him in the final third. They very rarely did this today and nearly every time when they did he produced something good!

A few nice passes here and there doesn't cut it. Look how Silva took control of the City midfield today, that's what you expect of Ozil, to show he's truly world class by driving the team forward.

Instead, he hides away and pops up with a nice pass every now an then but literally offers nothing else to the team.

Also his pathetic body language and depressed look on his face doesn't help.

I have been saying it from when we signed him. You can't build teams around a luxury player like him.

There has never been a comparison between silva or Ozil as Silva is streakes ahead. He took that game of us and bossed it while Ozil was being bundled of the ball somewhere else

He does it sometimes like against Chelsea and most of the lower league teams but today our game plan was clearly not to control the game. Wenger obviously wanted to sit back and then take our moments on the counter attack. It easily could've worked as in the first half we had a lot of potentially good chances that didn't materialise. You'll notice that ozil was a key cause of nearly every opening. The 2 I mentioned plus when he flicked it on to walcott and maybe more which I can't remember.

I don't think you can criticise him for not taking the game to them today as taking the game to them clearly wasn't the instruction from Wenger.

Good player that he is he was never needed for the fee paid, you had far bigger problems to fix which you still choose to ignore.

Jollygood just pretending Ozil played well anyway

HE HAD A STINKER MAN!! ACCEPT IT! You can't just ignore the 85 mins he was pantz and rant about a handful of passes. And I can assure you AW did not tell him to disappear from the game and allow Silva to make him look a

Fans like you and Liquid hadicap Ozil. You prevent him from becoming the great player you make him out to be. STOP HYPING HIM! He's buying into the hype, believing himself great when he's not. And because he already thinks he's great, he's not working as hard as he should be at becoming great. Adding driving at the MF with the ball to his game would make him a better number 10 than he is now. He can still be the pass king too. Thing is, as long as fans and followers keep kissing his ass telling him he's better than players who hand him his ass, he won't feel the need to be a better player so stay Silva's biyatch

Thing that annoys me is when Sanchez has a poor game people slate him but he is immense 9 games out of 10.

Ozil though keeps getting his bellendd licked by people on this site. Like last night he was abysmal, as usual when it matters most, yet people still have to go on about his stats and what a fantastic plate he is. I don't care how good he was for Madrid or Germany, he is Shiite for us

Are you suggesting that Ozil reads this site and bases him games on the moronic posts one finds here ?
Not very likely is it ?

Actually you can. If a player is good enough, you can structure the entire team around his lack of defensive ability (or if you have a player like Ronaldinho, around his complete refusal to get involved in anything defensive).

But to do that, the player needs to be very, very good. And you need to know he is going to turn up consistently, especially in big games.

Where you will start to struggle is when you try and build a team around two such players at the same time. Especially against good opposition. Which is why we struggled to control City when we played them, because we had Hazard and Fabregas on at the same time. Sure, it worked, but that was more down to City's defensive issues than anything else.

From what I saw, your problems yesterday can be laid more at the feet of your two CM/DM players. You can accept Ozil not putting up the defensive numbers, but those two should have been working their socks off for 90 minutes. I honestly didn't feel like they did.

He really wasn't that bad. As I said we weren't aiming to control the possession. Man city were and so obviously Silva was heavily involved in that. But come to think of it, even though Silva was instrumental in them keeping the ball, I can't remember him making too many killer incisive passes and I wouldn't be surprised if ozil made more. People are criticising Ozil based on how Silva was key for city keeping the ball, but aren't taking into account the fact that the 2 game plans were different and ours was not conducive to ozil getting loads of touches on the ball. What the game plan required was for ozil to produce the key passes on counter attacks and he did that multiple times in the first half.

Our plan was clearly not to play high up the pitch. The plan was for the midfielders and defenders to just contain by keeping the gaps small between them and then win the ball when city make a mistake and counter attack. In my opinion it was the right plan and we would've killed city off in the first half if certain players moved the ball more quickly on the counter attack (alexis was a culprit for slowing them down quite a few times).

People are saying ozil was hiding, but by that logic you would say that mahrez and vardy were hiding last season! When we don't have much possession and are not aiming to, what do you expect a player like ozil to do?

When we had the ball he was instrumental in everything we created as always. In the second half he or the whole team didn't manage to create anything but the main cause of that was our defenders and coquelin and xhaka not stringing 2 passes together so we couldn't create counter attacking openings.

When the ball did get to ozil on these counter attacks, yes his control was sometimes not up to scratch and I'm not claiming he had an amazing game, but he was surrounded by city players with few to pass the ball to. This was partly because neither coquelin or xhaka are good at getting up to support the attack.

So overall given the game plan, it was a decent performance from ozil. Outstanding in the first half but poor in the second, but his supply was extremely limited in the second half.

No I'm suggesting the numpties stuck up his ass on here are also all over his Twitter feed, fb page and every other social media feed they can be on, telling him how great he is all the time. You're crazy if you think players don't see hear or buy into mass hype about them. Granted it's not all players but there's a good few from every generation of potential stars, who don't make it to the best they COULD be. Due to the fact they buy their hype so think themselves the complete player long before they are.

Ozil is also a strong candidate for not truly fulfilling his potential, due to his career path. Germany wonderkid come Galactico. Quite easy to see how he might think he's the bees knees already. Nothing kills talent and hard work like too much success and noteriety to early on.
