Crack two eggs into the expansion tank, or get a new radiator fitted.

Had this in my daughters car and its the water coolant bottle that has a crack in it.

First thing to do is try and see where the leak is. Maybe bottle, hose or even a clip that maybe loose as I found out with power steering fluid leak.

You could just place a newspaper under neath when parked and see where it drips

Can't be that old if it's a Scirocco, assuming it's a new shape one.

Unlikely to be a rusted radiator, more likely a hose leaking or pin hole in a hose.
Or if you are unlucky a head gasket gone.

Basically, I have to drive to the airport tomorrow... I have some radweld at home... it's under warranty, the guy I bought it from told me to take it in to a garage.

Do I chuck the radweld in tonight and hope it sorts it or just continue to top up as necessary until I can get it to a garage at the weekend?

Won't fix your problem if its not the rad.

Radweld is good if you have a leak but it still means rad replacement sooner or later. If no leak its not something I would add tbh

Always try the hoses etc as they are a cheap repair without long term damage.

If it is the rad then sure you may get another 6 months out of it or more depending on hole etc.

Oh, so it wouldn't fix a hole in a hose - literally would only fix a problem in the rad?

For me a quick check yourself or get it to a garage where it can be jacked up to see if it's hose etc

Top up until diagnosed, make sure you top up though as over heating can cause head gasket issues and that's not a cheap fix.

I would be reluctant to have radweld floating around if its not the rad.

Not many old ones left, had a 1986 GTI probably one of the best cars I've owned.
Wish I still had it.

OK, will keep topped up. Luckily (out of habit) I always keep coolant and water in the boot so it's not drastic. Car tells me when it's low too so shouldn't be a problem if I top up before I leave. Will then whip it in to a garage at the weekend.

I have known people use radweld and have head gasket issues after. Not sure of the mechanics of it but I would only use it as a temporary fix to get me home etc.

A second hand dealer..

About 115 bhp i think.

At the time it went like stink, probably the same performance as a ford KA now.
