Can should be competing with Wijnaldum. We definitely need cover for Henderson. If we get cover on the left (and I think we'll go for someone who can play either side to cover him and Mane) then Cout can play Lallana's role which is nothing like Wijnaldums.

Ask yourself this.
Will Pogba get in any if the teams of the year?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No but there's two reasons
1) He hasn't played to his potential or even what he played in the CL the last couple of seasons
2) teams of the year don't often take into account the little things

Okay Spurs and Chelsea. Sigh. Point being most sides have dropped points against lower placed sides. I'd rather that than against top six anyway tbh.

He's not playing at his best. But he is doing plenty well enough at many things if you break down what a CM is supposed to do.
Just my point of view, but I don't think anyone has said Pogba has been fantastic this season.
More of the fact that he is being unfairly criticised. He hasn't been as bad as a lot of people have made out, what he has achieved in the game by his age is phenomenal, and that he could easily go on to surpass Stevie/Frank and was better than them at the same age?
I believe that is the whole point of the article and the discussion?

7 pages, christ. Look, Pogba has huge potential but this season has been average and nowhere near what United paid for him, but only time will tell if he will prove his worth and kick on in the seasons to come, that's the end of it so get over it.
Some players do kick on, some players don't. Look at Oscar, when we got him he had huge potential and in his first season showed huge promise and he was 20-21, yet after a few more seasons apart from the odd purple patch he was p!ss poor.
Above can pretty much be said for Sterling too at the moment and Oxo/Walcott.
But then look at the likes of Bale for a success story. The problem is there's more failures than successes. But time will tell
Mourinho definitely limits him though.
Also Alli is much better than Pogba currently and has more potential
It doesn't matter what he has done before or what he might do in the future.
His first season has been extremely poor for a £90m player, no better than average for a £45m player, and reasonably good for a £15m player.
He needs to up his game massively to justify his fee in the coming years.
He might do this and his fee will largely be forgotten and people will stop laughing at him.
He might not and he might be back in Italy in 18 months as a cut price flop.

I think Pogba's problem, and I'm not reinventing the wheel here, is the fee.
Not that it's weighing him down. I doubt that is bothering him when, in reality, he isn't playing badly at all for a first season, in a new team and new league. But I do think it has made people stand up and realise he may well have a very high ceiling. Which I believe he has. But he is playing nowhere near that ceiling at the moment.
But his ceiling has been raised that high, mostly through ability, but a certain portion through his fee (don't forget his ability drives the fee. The fee is always going to be higher than most, as United will make more through higher merchndise sales so they're able to lash more knowing the recoup will be greater; another point sometimes forgotten when talking about fees Man United pay) that if he plays a 6.5/10 every week and we don't get results, he gets it.
He's miles off what he can be, but that's still good enough to be above most. Tells it's own story.
£89m or not, you can't judge him after half a season in a new league, new manager, new team blah blah.

Alli isn't a CM nor does he have more potential
He's come over here (or back here) having gained a reputation as either having the potential to be or already being one of the top midfielders in world football hence the price that he cost. Personally I've never seen him play well in a big game (vs Barca, Bayern, Atleti off the top of my head) so clearly this rep has come from Serie A.
So he's a seasoned pro with 3-4 seasons of top level football behind him - not the Brazilian/Dutch/Russian/Turkish leagues - yet has barely shown anything to justify all the hype. That's the truth of the matter right now. Doesn't mean he won't do but we can only judge him on what he's shown since he's been here.
Just because Dele is younger doesn't mean he has more potential than Pogba. Dele is just well ahead of his development imo, he's a very smart player already whereas with experience Pogba can mature and improve loads
Also Sterling has really kicked on this season so I wouldn't lump him with Oscar
