Romero, Shaw and Pogba

Romero is a more than adequate no.2 goalkeeper. Couldn't claim first spot at his two previous clubs so which tells a story really.

Shaw took a knock on his ankle and was on a yellow. The game was won, good call to bring him off.

We can't make judgements long term after a routine win against relegated team with 10 men.

Shaw is definitely good enough defensively. His attacking game isnt up to it. Did okay today getting forward but wasn't up against much. Can't read a lot from today.

Pogba is frustrating the hell out of me last 2 months. He needs a good long break i think. He's practically played two years without a proper break with france getting to euros final.

Didn't pogba take about a month off after the euros

Why not wait and see if the club can improve him, you are the first to moan when Ed gets the chequebook out.

Not really a rest. He still had to update Twitter daily, so not like he was resting.

Romero isn't good enough to be number 1.

Whilst i agree Shaw doesn't have the best attributes going forward, a lot our actual attackers are failing in that respect too. Let's fix the attack then worry about what the full backs can bring going forward.

If we get to the level we hope, with Jose as manager, a defensive full back is could be important.

Or one of Darmian, Blind, CBJ or Riley.

One of the five of them is surely capable of nailing the spot down.

Thought Pogba was very quiet and ineffective. Herrera and Fellaini had better games!

Apparently DDG has a hip injury

I thought shaw was ok.
Good to see someone run to the byline every now and then.
Blind is a hopeless left back, dude cant run cant cross...standard attributes of a fullback

I don't see Romero as a genuine option as first choice. Very solid backup though.

Romero is a good back up keeper but I wouldn't be as comfortable with him as first choice. He's better than many PL keepers though.

Shaw was good today. Jose was right to take him off though he was on a yellow and had just committed another foul.

I thought Pogba was good today. Not amazing but good

It's a weird one with Romero.

If ddg got injured for say, 10 games and Romero stepped in I very much doubt we'd have any reason to miss DDG at all

Problem is, Romero makes one mistake and instantly the fans turn on him saying he was never going to be able to replace Ddg.

--------------------------------------------------

I'd agree.

His current cover role might well suit him more than being first choice and playing week in week out although there's only one way to know for sure. Highly doubt this would be a realistic option but we could always see how good Joel Pereira is if De Gea leaves and have him share the duties with Romero. Pereira's had some first team experience at a top level European league and impressed during his time at Belenenses so might be worth a go.

Shaw just needs games now to get him up to full speed. Hopefully he'll be fit for Thursday. When he has proper rhythm he offers more than any of our other LBs. He's the best defensively, the quickest, the best at carrying the ball forward and at running beyond defences, something we've not had a player do too much all season in his absence and it gives us a different dimension.

Pogba's break doesn't seem as though it's done him much good. Made one or two key passes but didn't play well enough overall today considering the opposition and the man advantage. He does need to raise his game.

Rightly or wrongly (and I don't care really either way), people hold Pogba to different standards than any other PL player.

If he puts in a match-winning, outstanding performance - and we saw a few of those before the turn of the year - maybe he's begun to start justifying his price tag, and it's what we should expect every week.

If he's anything less than outstanding, he's ajudged to be underperforming, and, whether he's been the best midfielder on the pitch, will be subject to a greater degree of critical scrutiny.

There's no objective analysis of his performances.

Romero is pretty poor with his feet. With the way we play currently it's not much of an issue but should we transition to something more modern hed be a liability. He's decent in other departments though.

If De gea goes well defo be in for a top quality replacement.

Decent performance from Shaw... If he'd been handled better he might be back to his best by now.

.................
I always thought his distribution with his feet are one of his best assets.
