My unsung hero today

Quality player. I'd be gutted if we sold him. Bailly and Blind can be a great partnership for us.

Don't see how he can't offer more than fellaini in the holding role either. He's a much better footballer. Better passer by far.

Fellaini does the physical work. Breaking up play. Actually in very good form lately and offers just what Jose wants from a midfield spoiler.

Ironically Blind was protected very well by Fellaini today.

Defenisvely we have been great last 3 seasons. Its just lack of goals that killed us last 3 seasons. I don't know how De Gea wins PFA goalkeeper of the year every season making the least saves. Makes no sense.

I wanted to see that but have given up. I doubt Mourinho sees him as physical enough. Sadly, he's probably only at CB because of injuries to others.

Utility players are Jack of all trades and masters of none, only needed if you don't have the best in their rightful positions. Not staying hes a bad player, far from it, but if he's not a good enough midfielder or he's not a good enough defender, what's he doing at a club the size of Man Utd? Surely you have enough round pegs for round holes.

Blind is a great signing, one of the main reasons we are calm in defense and he can play some great balls forward. Not used much this season.

He gave about 8 fouls away today robb and one was really poor. He was awful first half and was actually helping their cause. Watch the game again.

Granted he was much better 2nd half but we were 2 up

Fellaini isn't good enough for us.

Deserved praise, but shouldn't come as a shock. He was arguably our most consistent player under van Gaal.

Thought the team were very comfortable today.
Professional job with not one truly masterclass individual display, generally because there didn't need to be.

Burnely were disappointing.Thought they'd show abit more edge.

But that's simply not true.

I really wish people understood about why players commit fouls and why managers ask them to do it.

Ashley Barnes is Burnleys most creative player and Fellaini was tasked with doing what he could to unsettle him and in the first half he did it brilliantly. Neville even commented on it while the first half was happening.

People see the fouls and lazily think it's just clumsiness but Jose wants him in there making these technical fouls. Stops the Burnley counter attacks from coming to anything.

Fair.

I think he's been a very good signing and actually think he looks like a natural CB, lb or DM wherever he.plays which is huge credit to him.

We need a ball playing CB and he is one. Smalling, Rojo n Jones are just poorer versions of Bailly.

I want more than technical fouls from a MUFC International midfielder who cost £30m.

You spend so much time defending him Robb yet 95% of our fanbase are.on my side. He's been a poor signing. Very poor.

And you go way overboard in your praise for him like you are almost indebted to him. Very bizarre.

He's bang average and shouldn't be getting the game time he does at a club of this size. I genuinely thought he was a better footballer than he was before he signed.

But you wanted Jose so you surely knew what kind of midfielder he wants in there to do all this dirty work?

He's been one of our best players this second half of the season. Started the last six games in the league and we've gotten 14 points. He's here to stay.

Have I ever said he's world class? Nope but he is our Darren Fletcher. A guy the manager plays to break up play and do a job.

Fans never ever appreciate these players but they are essential. See how important he was against Chelsea.

Brining a player down when he is 50 yards from goal and facing away from goal is not a technincal foul. It is plain stupid. Especially when they have Brady swinging in set pieces. He did it 3 or 4 times today.

posted on 23/4/17

It's a tactic from managers. The further away from goal it is, the less likely a referee will give a yellow card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course it is. Managers want players to break up play and do commit technical fouls.

Here is Wenger complaining about it...

“It’s not especially any particular player but it looks to me that some players make repeated fouls and it doesn’t matter how many fouls they make but they get a card when it’s a spectacular foul,” Wenger said as far back as 2009.

“It’s the little fouls in the middle of the park. It breaks up the game from when you are attacking three against three, four against four and then you get a free kick and it’s ten against ten again. All the work you have done is nothing. We call it a tactical foul. I think I will try to talk to the FA about it. It’s the same for Manchester United, Liverpool and for everybody.”

posted on 23/4/17

Robb will try and defend fellaini any way he can.

He was decent second half today but that half was a breeze. He was crap first half and gave away dangerous freekicks which looked their only way in.

Robb has gone so far defending fellaini over years he can't back down anymore. Secretly I think he even knows he's not good enough.

We need to get better than him if we're to get back among the elite in Europe. Even to get back winning the league.

He's been a very poor acquisition.

Fellaini's fouls are not committed in dangerous situations. Today, a number of them were in completely harmless areas where there was no danger. All they did was give one of the best set piece takers in the league to swing a ball into our box.

You trying to tell me that this is a deliberate tactic from our manager is one of the most bizarre arguments I've heard from you to be honest. And that is saying something.

posted on 23/4/17

Just to put some perspective on this debate, Kate costs 3 million more than Fellaini. One is a midfielder, the other Robb can analyse what he is.

Most of the fouls I saw from Fellaini were in our own half which was where Burnley were attacking. His fouls did a job and broke up any danger from them

Gary Neville said as much during the game.

Exactly blooded.

He fouled because he's too slow. And he's clumsy. He's not even a good passer so he's useless in midfield.

He has one use and that's being thrown on for last 20 when we need to go direct. That's it.
