The last time England won a knockout stage game at a tournament came in 2006 world cup against Ecuador where Michael Carrick played his only appearance for England at a tournament. The pundits on BBC were in awe of him. He went to Man Utd and never played for England again at a tournament. Just goes to show if you play for Spurs you get to play for England.He helped England qualify for WC and Euro

I like how Peop mentions the 2 players to play one game for England at a knockout stage and get MOTM by pundits.

I remember the 2011 CL final, Carrick stopped a lot of goals that game by reading the game so well a long with Fabio.

Yeah it is. I think Carrick is more player of the season then De Gea last few seasons and should get more credit.

Carrick 2007/2008-2012. His best few years for us. What a servant he has been for us. One of the most underrated PL players.

Ask a Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool fan what they think of him, they'll say he's gash. But he's one of the reasons we were one of the best teams in Europe and England for a few seasons

How was he wasted? He retired early. HE wasted it himself. Before you say it's because he was moved to the wing, read what Scholes said. HE said that wasn't true, he was happy playing on the wing, it's just Sven felt Gerarrd and Lampard where better than him. He was right, evidenced by them picking up all the individual awards whilst Scholes only became as good as them after he retired.

For years idiotic United fans ripped him apart because they didnt understand what he did. It is only recently that these United 'fans' seem to have finally warmed to him. That or given up trying to understand footie.

Man Utd outside of conversion rate have been the best team in the premierleague this season. Chelsea and Spurs will get all the praise but Man Utd really should be premierleague champions this season. I think last season was so frustrating missing out on CL and this season we are 5th again due to those one sided draws that plagued us last season. You see Arsenal get those lucky goals in 1 goals wins last few seasons but we don't seem to get many lucky wins.

Last time we won a league game by 1 goal margin was against Boro with that late finish in 2016 end.
