Man Utd in talks for Ivan Perisic

I've not seen much of him. But let others, seems underwhelming. More by age and fee. Could turn out to be a Payat kind late bloomer. But the fee is a lot.

So the general opinion is :

"I know nothing about him and have never seen him play, therefore I am underwhelmed by this signing that I know nothing about"

Excellent.

Surely the wing and no.10 positions are the two we least need strengthening yet it seems we are looking to spalsh around 120m on Griezman and Perisic...

CB to partner Baily, LB because we don't have a reliable one, CM because Carrick 35 and Fellaini should not be a starter, no.9 becuase Ibra is crocked and Rashfod cannot be relied on to score 20+ a season yet.

Surely anyone with the slightest interest in football remembers him from the euros... He was really exciting to watch. Whether that was a one off, I don't know...

Pretty disappointed if true tbh, works hard, runs really fast... But nothing special (until he pulls on a Croatia shirt and gets inspired)... And it's probably the end of Martial

That said... Joses transfer business so far has been good, so hopefully the trend continues

Underwhelming tho

Underwhelming???

I'm sick of fans on this site. You can't sign £80m players in every position.

Perisic is a good player and definitely suits a Jose Mourinho side. He's also a natural wide player (unlike Mata, martial, miki) so he's got MUFC DNA. Our club has been built on width.

I'd be happy with this signing. We have too many false wingers who cut inside. Even Lingard does it. He rarely goes to the by-line. Perisic will offer us something else.

Our fans on here would rather us sign the lad City signed despite us having players similar to him already in miki n Mata.

We need a proper winger.

Considering how poor we are when it comes to wide play and don't possess an old fashioned style winger, bringing one in makes perfect sense to add some balance to a squad which is top heavy with players who prefer to play through the middle and come inside when they play from wide.

It makes more sense to me than bringing in Griezmann tbh.

I'm not a big fan of Perisic but he's a good player and he has certain attributes we desperately need and can give us another dimension in attack.

If we could get him for a bit less than the rumoured price, it wouldn't be too bad a signing.

Only seen him play at the Euro's, where he was one of the stand out players

Maybe we won't sign a number 9. Maybe Rashford n Martial will compete for the spot.

Leaving likes of Griezmann (if we get him) Mata, Miki, Jesse & Perisic fighting for 3 spots.

-----------------------Rashford / Martial

-----Perisic-------------Griezmann-----------Miki

------------------------Pogba----Herrera

That team looks very good to me. So much pace and movement.

perisic on the left makes so much sense. Him hugging the touch line provides soooo much more space for the likes of Pogba and Griezmann operating in the middle.

Right now we have players starting on the left or right and they come in causing congestion in there.

I do laugh when we look to sign 28 year old players

People say.. 'he'll soon be 29 and then that's basically 30 so he's too old'

I've never seen 2 years be added to someone's age so quickly.

He turned 28 3 months ago

----------

No ones suggesting we do that. In fact the most of the people you're talking about have said we should not sign him or AG BASED on their fees.

From the little I've seen of him £40 mil is a lot money for him. Especially at 28 years old.

Overpriced and underwhelming are good descriptions here tbh.

His stats are also reasonable but not in my opinion 40mils worth.

Absolutely spot on Robb.

Luke Shaw can also then concentrate on what he does best. Defending. In current system we need him to do what Valencia does and he isn't good enough. Shaw is a quality defender. Ashley Cole was bobbins going forward but it never held him back.

This.

Willian is also 28 and I would take him in a heartbeat.

Major problem is the price:he is not a precocious tyro or what i call a 'difference-maker' so it is egregiously expensive.

Other than that, i like him. He was outstanding at the Euros.

Maybe we will do this.

We will then definatley finish outside the top four again.

You need to forget valuations. We overpay for almost everyone because everyone knows we are loaded.

Perisic is the perfect type of player for us for the reasons Robb gave above. He's a natural winger. A player who is only concerned about hugging touchline, taking players on and getting ball into box. We don't need another false winger.

I'm happy.

Outstanding but not a difference maker? So in what sense was he outstanding?

£36 million these days is just a normal, run of the mill price, especially for proven players in their prime of which he is. Also Inter are minted so have no real need to sell.

As far as being a difference maker - if he brings balance to our attack and it works better that's the only difference that counts.

Only to us it appears not to be.
