No on captain. Yes on huge player for us last
and hopefully for a long time. Hope we can get
Bartley back to pair them again.

No he shouldn't be captain - he gets far too many suspensions to be captain.

Personally out of the two I thought Bartley was the better player last season, jannsson was, and is, a fantastic signing, but for me he has to improve his disapline, now more so than ever, as he is now our standout centreback

If your talisman is your centre half, your fooked

I thought part of the best thing about our last season was the amount of people marshalling the team and helping to organise. Bridcutt wasn't one of them. No way should he be captain again.

Bridcutt wouldn't be anywhere near team for me

he needs to improve his forward passing.

is amazing how he earns what he does and cant pass a ball

Need to bring in a midfield enforcer who captains. No idea who.

its the obvious choice, but leadership, goals and assists from howson would be useful.

tbh i have no idea, what the team will be first day of season.

orta could well just bring in load of foreigners again ala cellino first season.

Howson would be a good choice

Its an odd one with Jansson, he has the grit and gets stuck in, but he has to learn to hold back a bit and leave the bookings out!..

Vinnie managed it, and for me was a harder player!..

Howson for captain, great shout!..

He is no bigger than the team around him. A team gets promoted not a player. He is a great addition but cannot do it alone.

He is a player that makes up that team, so, he either improves it or he craps it up!..

A team might not get promoted for having bad players in other places, something like what Leeds United did this last season!..

Someone said he can't pass, I beg to differ. Also on the ball his composure at times was awesome

Jansson is driven by his emotions, it's why the fans like him and why he picks up bookings and has training ground spats. I think he's a leader on the pitch but not captain material.

Bridcutt? Would he be a regular? Dead da on signings and formation... he wasn't fully fit for most of last season, he does a job as a holding midfielder he breaks up play well reads the game well, has excellent close control but his passing his Achilles heel and he isn't going to get you on the front foot.

Appreciate the thread is about captains but re midfield, A new manager might have a different view on Murphy and Dave. With them back in the mix, o'Kane given more licence to push forward we don't look as light in midfield as it seemed for most of last season. Plenty of room for improvement still but you should be able to get at least a functional midfield out of that lot with Ronny hopefully getting more experienced and Phillips hopefully out on loan learning his trade.

Bridcutt seemed to only work in the specific role of DM having the one job of protecting the defence, further forward he is ineffective. I think with Howson and Viera/O'Kane as a more advanced midfield two in front could work, would rather Dave in the DM role.

Agree Harrogate for me it's Dave OR bridcutt in that role... presuming that role is relevant in the next manager's style/formation.

Still think when people rave over the defence and slag the midfield (me included) we sometimes overlook that we set our side up last season with a midfield designed to protect the defence. A more attacking setup might not have left Bartley and jansson looking so imperious. We packed bodies in the middle encouraging long balls into the box which suited us.

The flip to that is we kept giving the ball away so made sure we were kept pretty busy defensively! Best form of defence being attack and all that.

Diagouraga looked good at breaking up the play, but also looked comepetent at driving forward with the ball, too.

Would like to see us play this home and away and bring in a really good midfielder and quality winger, i'd maybe use Dallas as a LWB, I think he'd do a great job.

id love to be able to use 12 players all season too mate

posted on 31/5/17

If we are going to start 12 players then we may as well start two goalkeepers

Should clarify I really like jansson as a player, good physical centre half who can play a bit (occasionally tries to overdo it)... and i like the passion... but you only have to look at why he missed the brighton game to get why he wouldn't be great captain material imo.

posted on 31/5/17

you're being harsh lads, I see where harrogate is coming from... on his good day vieira could fill both those CM positions

posted on 31/5/17

haha! Take out the CAM, my apologies

Should only be playing 1 defensive midfielder at home. Should be good enough not to need 2

Jansson may well be happy that Monk has exited, after their probable fall out.

I don't think he'll be getting the daft yellows next term, ie from a crowd surfing dive into the leeds end or taking his shirt off after a goal.

One of our best and most vocal currently in the squad, and if we continue to have mute players like Bridcutt featuring, Jansson is an obvious choice for captain. It may well calm him down even more, as he'll have to show the other lads some leadership and restraint.
