Being our 1st game, as long most of the players get a run out and no one gets injured, that's what counts.
Touch and form is inconsequential at this stage. Its purely about fitness
Good start though
You sure you watched the game...
Wasn't paying much attention myself but at least I know we played with 3 at the back in the first half...
Also LA were playing their 2nd/3rd string in the first half, so that they looked like sh!t is to be expected.
Nothing can be read into on this game however our CMs, Mata, Herrera, mkhitaryan and pogba looked sharp. Jesse, tfm and rash too.
Lukaku does look clumsy though...
You sure you watched the game...
________
Okay you got me
I only fully watched the second half, and extended highlights of the first.
So what formation did we play 1st half? I couldn't quite make it out although I did notice Mata was playing beg central as opposed to the right
Kudos for owning up... most on here wouldn't.
We played 3 at the back (jones, smalling, blind) with jesse at lwb and valencia on the right. The rest were in positions you'd expect. All the with was provided by the WBs, so all midfielders were basically central.
Was a complete cake walk the first half. The second was probably a better contest.
Game review: didnt watch the first half.......
Now thats the sort of research BT have!
Please don't over analyze friendlies. They are for getting fitness and sharpness ONLY.
Remember 3 years ago where under lvg we beat Liverpool and Barcelona on tour as well as thumping Galaxy 7-0? We went on to have a really poor start in the league including losing 2-1 to Swansea at home on opening day.
They mean feck all guys.
Agree that they don't mean much.
Things I took from it was how Rashford looks to have spent all summer in the gym!
And how obvious it is that Mata and Mkhitaryan are both superior when played centrally.

Rashford is wasted at LW. Miki n mata are better in the middle. I didn't need the game last night to tell me either though. Common sense.
Our square pegs policy needs to stop. Play our top players where they are most effective or not at all.
Perisic would be an ideal signing for the formation we trialled in the first half. He and Valencia would be perfect, and free up Mkhi/Mats to play centrally.
Been saying we need to improve wide options. We don't have a single player whose best position is out wide.
Perisic would give us genuine width. Would be a great signing.
Agree with the comments above. Our wide options are dire really. Most of them aren't actual wingers and one of them that actually is plays right back for us and does the job well to his credit.
352 with somebody like Perisic on the left midfield spot seems like a good match for us. Hopefully we can get this transfer over the line.
Jose said post match that the next friendly against Salt Lake we will be playing 4 at the back, and again will be 45 minutes per player.
Yeah I'm a bit disappointed to hear that. We have looked so awfully predictable for three years playing 4 at the back and one man up top. Our league positions of 4th, 5th and 6th.
I'd really like Jose to change it up and play 3 cb's and 2 strikers and have a bleeding go at teams. I just don't see him doing it.
I think we've fielded such an unbalanced 11 for the past 2 or so years though, I don't think 433 is a flawed formation and through better finishing and clinical forward play we could've scored plenty more last year.
The fact we played 3 at the back yesterday shows it's in Joses mind at least for some games.
SE85... you literally just typed on the other thread not to look too much into what happens in pre-season... now you taking 1 comment about formation and using it to get in a tizzy about next season's playing style
Playing two up top would get the best out of rashford, lukaku is only young so if you say "play him upfront or not at all" then we won't be seeing enough of rashford for a good few years.
Also if we sign a defensive midfielder, who misses out?
I watched the game last night
Micky was superb. Cut through the Galaxy midfield and defence time and time again
Martial looked very sharp but as the half went on he hogged the ball a bit too much. Good goal though
Lukaku had a great chance Saved and set up a couple of chances with decent passes. But did look a bit tired so needs more games
Rashford was very good. Missed a brilliant chance to get a hat trick.
The worst player was probably Fosu Mensah. It was just a friendly but he was very poor
We have three ball playing CBs in Bailly, Blind and Lindelof. Surely if we play 3-5-2 it negates the need for a DM, since one of them can step up into mid and drop back to defend as required?
Ideally:
--------------De Gea
-------Bailly Blind Lindelof
Valencia ---------------Perisic
-------------Herrera
----------Mkhi----Pogba
------Rashford----Lukaku
And btw, last night we saw the problem with two up front with the players we have
Martial and Lukaku just got in each other's way too much.

Only natural after half a game together... takes time to develop any strike partnership

True. I just don't think Lukakus game will ever thrive with a strike partner. Open to being proven wrong though
Martial and Lukaku just got in each other's way too much.
________
It was strange how they seemed to deliberately not pass to each other as well
Lukaku could've squared to martial for an open goal when he missed his chance right at the start of the second half, maybe that ticked martial off
After that, martial just kept taking long shots rather than passing to lukaku
