Rube would be 13 points behind if they lose later. Problem is that would mean Roma winning. Need Mourinho as far away from the top as possible.

Three guesses to what one other PL club stood with Newcastle in a vote to stop them from signing dodgy deals within the Saudi kingdom

I am surprised how well palace are playing under Vieira. By all reports, he seemed like a crap coach in his previous jobs. I've seen palace play 3 full games now and in all of them, they've pressed well and played some really good football.
Hopefully he can keep it up.
yer, Vieira got off 2 a real rocky begin 2 his coaching career.
tho tbf, many succesful coaches have
It's a damning indictment of Arteta that Vieira, with worse players and a significantly lower budget than us, is able to get his players performing in a style that is both solid out of possession but also threatening when they build attacks with the ball. They press well too.
Vieira's been there for 3 months. Arteta has been with us for nearly 2 years and has been given absolutely every benefit of the doubt, as well as spending the most out of any PL club this Summer. He has no hiding places
I just don't understand why the club are so convinced he's going to come good. There's nothing to suggest that is the case.
At this point, I can't even keep blaming him. The decision to fire him should have been done ages ago. This lies squarely at KSE - yet again.
My unpopular opinion with regards to Arsenal is that I’d argue about the quality gap in both teams. I actually didn’t think Palace were as good as made out - their decision to concede the game was very poor.
Arsenal just keep making bizarre and poor signings - players with obvious question marks even before they came. While a good manager can make a lot of them look better I think it’s pretty evident that the better looking players at Arsenal have come from the academy
I don't think our players are that bad at all tbh. I think a decent coach can get us back into the top 6. The issue is the lack of style, the complete contrast of phases in between games, lack of aggression, lack of intensity, rigidness in positional play and weak structure in our build-up play.
All of this stems from the manager. It's not working.
I genuinely think he's the worst coach in the division.
Aside from Saka, Tierny and eventually ESR - who is there that top 6 clubs would really be interested in?
I don’t think Arteta is great and have maintained that I think that Hassenhuttl would do a good job at Arsenal. However I think your issue is much more deep routed - countless questionable signings and decisions have been made at the club to get the team to where they are.
If you really want to go deeper, the real issue is the ownership who have overseen and done nothing to reverse this downward spiral.
I don't think it's as simple as saying 'which other clubs would take your players?' as much as it is getting the most of the players you have available, playing to their strengths and getting a workable system that they buy into.
Which is my point - I find it very difficult to judge some of these players' capabilities because I think the coaching is making them look worse than they actually are.
Partey looks a complete shadow of the player he was at Atletico. These should be his prime years. That's not a coincidence.
Tierney has had an awful start to the season when he initially looked absolutely class - that's not a coincidence.
Gabriel has been hit and miss, but again, his consistency has dipped when he won our player of the month 3 times in a row last season - that's not a coincidence.
There are so many more examples I can give you, but honestly, anyone saying we don't have a squad capable of getting 6th, I would vehemently disagree with them.
Get a better coach than Arteta and my belief is we'd see evidence of that.
I think you can easily get a workable system that suits the majority of your players - genuinely a Hassenhutl running a 4222 is exactly that.
I don’t think you have a squad capable of 6th though. I think it is definitely behind last seasons top 4, Spurs and Leicester. Then I think there is a debate after that but I feel the likes of Villa have arguably a stronger XI.
But the recruitment has been baffling; this summer a huge amount of money was spent on players that everyone questioned. Partey, everyone on this thread said they had no clue how good he really was as his role at Atletico was so atypical. Pepe came with a reputation that wasn’t that great and the one thing that stood out was how many penalties he took. The 18/19 people were confused by at the time (albeit Torreira flopping was a surprise).
The only part of your team I think that transfer decisions have been made with any sense is your defence - and that’s been woefully mismanaged.
These discussions are purely subjective anyway, but we'll have to agree to disagree on Arsenal's capabilities.
I don't think Leicester have a squad that is streets ahead of ours, or West Ham either. I think the Spurs squad is better than ours, but again, I don't think the gap between both sides is enormous at all.
And even if you think the aforementioned sides are better than us, there isn't a huge disparity in quality between the sides in the same way there is between us and Chelsea, Utd, City and Liverpool. So this is where having an effective coach can make a world of difference in finishing 9th or finishing 6th.
Pepe was one of the most highly sought after players the Summer we got him, and whilst I was initially excited at a marquee name, I realised that there was no point spending all that money on a player where we had so many other gaps in the squad to fill that were more urgent.
The recruitment overall hasn't been good, but that's not a recent thing - this is a common theme from Wenger's latter years too.
The Summer that just went by, we clearly had a strategy of signing young players under the age of 23 who have a high ceiling/room to improve even if Arteta doesn't last the course. I think we did want to sign more players, but we couldn't shift the likes of Lacazette, Nketiah or Elneny etc out and that was a major obstacle.
Ultimately, I think we have a number of players that do have high potential - but I don't believe the current coach is the man to unlock it.
That's why Arteta is a far bigger issue than the players we have.
He can't coach final third play, sums him up as that's what he was like as a player. He's had 3 years to torture it out of the players, he's no good. They're capable of far more goals than they're being forced into. I think we're on course for about 33 goals at the end of the season. It's pathetic.
Madrid scored some good goals tonight
Vini Jr scored a stunner
his finishing seems to be improving for sure
I was more impressed that he didn’t just run the ball straight out of play.
