La Liga/Serie A season 2023-24

yes it's well deserved for them

I don't think they're much better than anyone else you've faced in this competition, Daz.

Big plus for us is that we're scheduled to play them at home on the last day of the league, which LaLiga has somehow managed to put 3 days before the EL final!

Me neither. We should win, and if we turn it on quite comfortably. But we have a habit of making things difficult for ourselves, and are just as capable of losing to anyone as we are beating anyone - this City team is one of the very best in prem history, Sheffield United one of the very worst, we beat the former and lost to the latter. So I’m taking nothing for granted.

Are you? Good news for you if you need the win. We are playing Wolves three days before the final as well. Schedule is tight this season because of the Euros and the late start.

Tight? It's bleedin' ridiculous. It risks devaluing and/or distorting both competitions.

I really hope I never have to witness a season as bad as this ever again.

Yeah but without other competitions being scrapped there’s not a lot that could be done with the schedule. It is what it is.

Surely Arteta won't get another season now? I'm surprised he's lasted this long tbh.

I’m guessing they thought the super league would go ahead, and that they could address things at the end of the season once it was.

I don’t know how they can consider keeping him now. As bad as the Arsenal squad is, there’s a lot of clubs that have shown them up with either performances or results over the course of this season.

Villa and West Ham were almost relegated last season. Leeds have just been promoted. All three clubs have made Arsenal look like mugs. There’s no excuses for it.

Yeah, even for our lowly standards, there's absolutely no reason at all to keep him in the job.

I said before that the FA Cup win brought him too much goodwill and it seems like the club were clinging onto that too much as evidence that we have a top manager in the making.

It hasn't worked at all and, honestly, this is as bad as I've seen us since the end of Emery's reign. Although we put an end to that fairly quickly, whereas we've granted Arteta more time and he's not warranted it.

The positive thing is that now more ex-players, pundits and journalists are castigating Arteta for his misgivings, whereas before, he wasn't getting criticised much by the mainstream media and the focus was on the players/culture. Now the pressure on him has ramped up and people aren't making excuses for him.

If this club has an iota of ambition, they will be looking for his successor now.

Yeah those clubs have shown them up really badly.

Potter to Arsenal. Edin where are you?

Though your last sentence is the worry, it’s not just ambition but competence as well.

Improving on Arteta shouldn’t be that hard. But can they bring in the right manager and players? History would suggest not with this ownership.

Leicester.

Finishing the season well is becoming a big issue for team Rodgers.

posted on 7/5/21

J-Lingz is gonna fire West Ham into the top four.

I think he deserves it anyway, but if that does happen there’s no doubt Moyes deserves manager of the year.

If Leicester hadn’t happened you’d struggle to remember a team making such a leap in one season.

posted on 8/5/21

Yeah I'd give to Moyes regardless.

It's not often that at least three sides don't finish a season on at least 70 points but it could be about to happen for the 2nd season running.

posted on 8/5/21

Oh yeah, didn’t think about that. Though Chelsea will probably get to 70 points.

Does show that for all the talk about the ‘big six’ having a huge advantage over everyone, it’s not really playing out on the pitch.

It’s actually at the very top where the gap exists these last couple of seasons.

From a Spurs POV we want Rodgers and we can only really get him if he misses out on CL - however if he misses out on CL then we shouldn’t want him. A real Brendan paradox

posted on 8/5/21

I don’t think it makes much difference. I think Spurs would still want him and he’d still turn you down.

posted on 8/5/21

In that scenario it’d be a blessing. I’d still prefer Potter anyway at least I can stomach listening to him.

posted on 8/5/21

I can relate.

Saw an amazing comment about Potter yesterday. He was talking about the speculation of his future and he said ‘I haven’t finished anything here’, someone said ‘neither have his strikers’.

Barca, Madrid and Rube quadrupling down on the super league.

Tbf, Rodgers has calmed down a lot with the cringe talk. But you can tell he wants to start it up again so badly

posted on 8/5/21

He’s toning it down because he wants a top job and he doesn’t want to put the fans off. Imagine if we appoint him down the line. His ego will explode, and the bullshiiiiit will come back with a vengeance. I’ve wound myself up now thinking of this scenario.
