A title challenge is a minimum expectation with this squad

posted on 3/8/17

No.

Too many issues. Winger playing at right back, centre back who was playing left back injured, young left back injured and criticised by his manager, central midfielder therefore having to play left back. Strikers playing on the wing, one young striker criticised by his manager and not preferred. Another defensive player brought into a midfield lacking creativity. More big string and tall players bought trying to create a strong functional team rather than a technical exciting one but it's not quite there yet.

Not for me. A challenge for fourth at best. Probably sixth again.

Worse squads than this have won the league in recent years. It depends on how coherently Mourinho gets the team player + how well our title rivals play + the element of luck.

PS TOOR is talking schite as usual.

opinions like this are ridiculous.

Sure... It's all about getting key players in form.

If Pogba, Mkhi and either or both of Martial/Rashford hot the form that we know they can, we will be a team to be reckoned with.

Football at this level is all about fine margins. If you have 2-3 of your stars in top form, anything can happen. Look at chelsea, last season... Hazard, Kante and Costa were mainly fit and in form. The year before, Mahrez, Vardy and Kante. These were not world class starting 11s or sqauds... But the right players were in the best form and the rest were at a good level.

Stretty - is the squad good enough to challenge ?

Yes.

It should be, looking at your competitors, why not?

Leciester won the league 2 years ago, so yes. Whether or not we do is down to a lot of variables.

Yes, more than good enough to fight for the title. Would be disappointed with anything less.

Last season our defence was fine, it was just our attack. We have bolestered our attack with Lukaku, and with the signing of Matic, it will allow Pogba to push further forward.

Add to the fact Martial and Rashford will have another season under their belt, more experience, which means they will get better. Add in the like of Mkhi and Mata, we do have a very good attack.

What do we define as challenge? In with a chance of winning it in the last few games? How many games? Last 2, 3, 4 games?
I don't think we'll win it, and I think we will be out of the title race with about 4 or 5 games to go.

With the dough you have spent, and the money Mourinho is paid, a title challenge is the least you should expect.

If it is not forthcoming, I am not sure where United go to be honest. To not be within single digits of the team in 1st would be a terrible return

Don't know tbh... I'm naturally pessimistic and despite enjoying a moan etc I wouldn't rule us out

I think our players are a lot better than what we showed for a lot of last season in the league... I thought this time last year we'd challenge, still think on paper we're capable of it

We threw lots of points away for lots of reasons.... poor finishing, Jose making defensive subs and trying to see games out and conceding late (Arsenal, Everton)... I thought we were poor second half of the season but injuries, fixture pileups etc didn't help (and yeah everyone gets them...but still)

who knows? Mhki, Martial, Pogba, Rashford are all capable of much more certainly

Hard to tell how other teams are going to do as well though... lots of variables

City look to have spent well and should be there if they gel... Chelsea are strong but maybe lack depth as things stand... Spurs have to cope with Wembley and haven't made a move in the market yet... Lacazette improves Arsenal but not enough for a title run plus they have the Europa... Liverpool and Chelsea have Europe again

If Jose can get us to click...

Lol.

The 'winger at right back' was arguably one of the best full backs in England last season. He's not a winger anymore, he's a Right back. Players can play in more than one position.

The rest of your points are just dumb. Injury problems can't be helped. We have players who can easily adapt to more than one position if needed.

Defensive midfielder was bought so that Pogba and Herrera can bring more creativity to the side, which undoubtedly will happen.

We will definitely finish above Liverpool, mind.

it wasnt last year and hasn't been improved, so unlikely.

Midfield rivals any in the league.

Only worry in defence is left back, but trust Jose to organise the defence well whoever plays.

Lukaku's record speaks for itself.

A creative left attacker would be good, and Jose may still get a man in.

Don't see why we can't.

our only good midfielders are Herrera and pogba (not consistent)

Individually as players arguably but as a team I think not mainly because I think City and Chelsea are better.

as are spurs.

Where's all the Jose fanboys with their 2nd season title talk ?

A genuine title challenge this season is a minimum expectation

You did a lot of race for top 4 articles last year Captain Marvel, and tried to call out those who said we wouldn't. Until it became clear we weren't going to make it and then it all went quiet.
A lot on here, including me, have already made our predictions, so how about giving yours.

Think it will be catastrophic if Man Utd or Man City don't win the league next year

------------------------------------------------------------------------- Because Leicester spent millions of £££'s acquiring their team, have won many titles before, had the worlds best manager at the time... etc.
