I thought we looked a little bit asleep for some of it, it's weird you'd think that with a long lay off the players would be bang up for it and raring to go, but that doesn't always seem to be the case when we start a new season!

Some good play, but dare I say it, we maybe looked a little bit bored. Which is a worry. I do think a couple of signings might keep people on their toes a bit and inject a bit of energy. There are massive bonuses to keeping a settled side, but at the same time, everything becomes a little similar, I can sort of understand why walker wanted a new challenge.

Great result and hopefully we can raise it another level for the huge chelsea game.

Sissoko looks like a top player for France at the Euros, I can't quite understand how he was so good for them but hasn't even really shown flashes of that ability at Spurs from what I have seen.

Is he the worst signing Spurs have ever made?

As for the game, good for Spurs to get a win and start off positively especially after the quiet summer. Hopefully bring in a few players this week and follow it up with a good home win breaking the Wembley hodoo at the first attempt. Hopefully Kane turns up as well.

That would create serious momentum for the season.

I still think sissoko is being played out of position... hes not a winger or a wide midfielder. imo...

I agree NotSo, but that is one of the problems when you dominate possession, you can see complacency creep in. Poch needs to ensure this is addressed.

One thing I noticed yesterday was that Eric Dier seemed quite ponderous and very slow in reacting to things.

Now I know the players have been jetting around quite a bit during the close season, I am wondering if one or two get affected by jet lag more than others might?

We do quite a bit of travelling and a lot of long haul flights, it typically can take 2-3 weeks to recover when you get back home. Mind you I am quite a bit older & that probably playes a big part too!

Agreed.

I think sissoko is a box to box CM, so he'd either have to play ahead of Dembele or Wanyama.

I honestly think he'd be effective if played there, but he's never going to get ahead of those two, so it was a weird signing.

I honestly think this one is as much the club's fault as the player's. We signed him then either didn't play him or played him out of position. Ridiculous use of £30m

So where should we play him Chronic?

I think Kane had a good second half and the only thing missing was the goal he needed!

Agree, he is not going to replace either Victor or Mousa anytime soon.
So possibly best to move him on soon!

I see him as a CM... so the bench....

but no point playing him where we do... he wont do anything... same as josh onomah....

playing players out of position is pointless

I like how the rules of the games have changed with regards to tackling, means that players are better protected as it shouldn't be OK to break a players legs or completely kick them out of a tournament (Pele 66).

Kane's tackle was lucky to not get a red and seriously reckless. That being said I can understand why it was a yellow as it was from the side and got the ball, the trailing leg is what made it such a bad tackle. He injured a bloke ffs, that shouldn't be ok.

Lets all bare in mind that Lejuene is now in a protective cast and is predicted to be out for a while. We would all be fuming if someone tackled Kane like that.

Nobody is saying it is okay to injure another player. And it certainly is not okay to go out deliberately to hurt another player either.

The reason Kane did not get sent off was down to intent, he went for the ball and unfortunately hurt Lejeune in the process. His intention was to get the ball, which he did.

Kane did not intend to injure Lejeune, however Shelvey did intend to either hurt or get retaliation from Dele.
Standing on an ankle like that could in other cases result in a broken ankle!

Yesterday.
On the negative side, Sissoko should have played out of his boots but was again disappointing. When the team was announced I thought he was being handed a chance to shine, a chance many believe he was not due. What more motivation does a player need to perform than in front of his old club? He’s barely just good enough as a squad player.

On the positive side, I was reminded of the sheer joy of watching a youngster thrust into the spotlight and who gave it his all and barely put a foot wrong. The video of him taking a picture of his MOTM award on the plane back was gold for me. His after match interview was brilliant and the naivety and pride in the youngster was there for all to see. That is what footy is about for me.

I also learned or had it confirmed more like, is that our Great Dane is probably one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.

Good to be a Spurs fan, bring on Chelsea COYS

Thought we got away with yesterday's match largely thanks to Shelvey. We never created any clear cut chances until that point, only half chances. Might have gone on to win anyway but you could tell that incident gave us a boost.

Get these signings done ffs so we don't have to be relying on Sissoko!

I think we should get rid of sissoko. Isn't going to work for us and is taking up a squad place. Ship him to turkey they want him there

Very positive start to the season from Spurs, Greaves

I thought it was an enjoyable game from the kick off, high intensity from both sides. The fluidity of our play pleased me most. One way to improve on previous seasons was to hit the ground running, and we did that. It's just a pity Kane couldn't get a goal, he had his chances and later on in the year he'll be slotting those away. The scoreline could have been higher in our favor.

I also think Sissoko is getting a bit too much stick for yesterday. He did nothing wrong and put in good effort under hostile circumstances. I don't expect anything special from him but if he can come in and do a job in several positions throughout the season, it represents some sort of benefit to our squad

And a special mention to Eriksen who was a joy to watch throughout Seems to have stepped up a level this year

True did'nt think he did anything wrong he did play Kane in , in one passage of play and if Kane returned the ball his way because he continued his run he could have had an easy chance to score.

I never said anyone did say it is ok to injure a player, I am just saying it isn't ok.

Intent also is irrelevant and has nothing to do with football. Cahill didn't intend to injure his man on Saturday, Shawcross didn't intend to break Ramsey's leg, but clusmy stupid challenges can still be red cards and reckless.

He had two feet of the ground, and scissored the opponents leg which is very dangerous.

It wasn't malicious as Kane has proven himself like he isn't that type of player. Yet it doesn't mean it wasn't a dangerous challenge and a red.

Maybe I have been too harsh on Sissoko, just think returning to St James he would have turned in a stellar performance. Still think he slows us down though and that is what was our biggest problem in the first have, the pedestrian build up play

Edinspur, having played and refereed at a good level, there is no way Kane's tackle was a dangerous one.

It is very difficult to go into a sliding tackle without both feet being off the ground for some part of it.

Kane did not tackle two footed, it was a good lead with his left leg which connected with the ball and it was Kane's leading leg which caught Lejeune's leg and trapped it with Kane's trailing leg.

The most I would have given would have been a free kick and possibly a but if the tackle could be deemed anything it would be reckless and not dangerous.

Referee all you want, if you can't say a bad word about the club then your comment will be biased.

Looks pretty two footed to me and not naturally.

'Not dangerous'

http://sport.news.tennisworldusa.org/live/florian-lejeune-on-crutches-and-wearing-protective-cast-after-coming-off-injured-on-newcastle-debut-in-defeat-to-tottenham

You can be reckless, not show intent but still have a dangerous tackle.
