Few reasons:
I just don't think your a club who is going to spend about £150-200m net in one summer. You don't have that financial power.
Both players want out and have handed in requests to leave which usually means that the players go in the end.

How much would you value VvD at?
Why are you so sure it ain't gonna happen?

Vvd is one of the most complete cb's in the world, so I'd expect more than was paid for Stones or luiz.
City messed up badly getting stoned instead of him, and he would have been massively preferable to lindeloff for Utd.
Luis was the surprise package of last season.
Stones, for me, just isn't there, never has been or will be.
